The Official 2015 Offseason Free Agency Thread
With the current roster we have and also with the injuries we've been plauged with this season it looks like we'll be possibly keeping that top 5 pick for this upcoming draft.
Here's also the list of possible FA that we can make an attempt on. The biggest names of course being LaMarcus Aldridge, Rajon Rondo, Kevin Love and Marc Gasol who're all going to be UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS. Then they're the RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS in Kawhi Leonard (Spurs aint letting him go anywhere) and Reggie Jackson
http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/09/201516-nba-free-agents.html
If we only keep Kobe, Clarkson, Randle, Nick Young, Davis(good deal) and Jordan Hill we should have somewhere around 25-27million dollars to play around with this offseason. I SERIOUSLY think we need to start building a solid roster foundation instead of looking only for the homerun. Guys like Zay Thomas, Ariza and Stevenson we're all available this pass summer on pretty solid contract offers and we passed on them all.
In my opinion, I think we should go after Greg Monroe and Reggie Jackson this off-season on fairly reasonable contract offers, Monroe somewhere between 8-12mill and Reggie Jackson will probably cost us a nice chunk of change because he's an ascending player so lets say about 12million (which is a good price for a starting NBA PG who's getting better every game).
With a young core of Randle, Greg Monroe, Ed Davis, vet Young and Reggie Jackson... Now we'll start looking more enticing to the up and coming bigger name free agents like Durant and Westbrook when the cap space opens up after Kobe contract comes off the books. And to think we may have have this top 5 pick in this up and coming draft to add to the younger core. I hope the management just doesn't focus on throwing out a max to Dragic and Marc Gasol and if they miss just wait for another off-season. If we do that IMO we're overlooking the bigger issue in this new CBA. True ELITE max level players want to go somewhere where they can win now and the foundation has already been set. We'll need our front office to really start building up this roster
Who would you like our F.O. to focus on getting this off-season? And lets not forget the cap will skyrocket very soon because of the new TV deal... So a max level deal now will probably be cost effective in a couple of years.

love will be unrestricted
players are only restricted coming off their rookie contracts
there ain't no way ed davis will play on for just 1.1 million dollars, he'll opt out and sign for at least 5 mil per

Your right about Love (Sorry)... But won't we have Ed Davis bird rights? His cap hold is so low we can keep him and then resign him after we get the targeted free agents we want. I definitely see a guy like Davis a solid core piece. Guy protects that rim

one season doesn't confer any bird rights, there's a cap hold, but no bird rights
not that it matters, we're under the cap and won't need the bird rights

ok gotcha thanks. But depending on how much money we use this offseason there is a possibility we may need to go over the cap to resign him right?

Re: The Official 2015 Offseason Free Agency Thread
I sorta see it in these 3 scenarios
ONE : Kept our pick and got Okafor, signed Jackson and pursued and failed on Love. Signed some small forward that won't contribute much, used our HOU pick on something I like
TWO : Kept our pick and got Mudiay. Got Monroe and had him play his natural C with back. Used our pick as trade bait.
THREE : Lost our pick because Swag went HAM, lost out on FAs, Howard was suspended for a long time and HOU kept their pick too, and we go to involuntary tank mode again.
I hope we get Scenario 1.

We keep our pick from Phoenix trade if Top 5 & Houston's pick should be low 20's... I 100% agree with the mentality of adding pieces & not waiting for a superstar... That being said, I do think K Love likes LA & we have a shot... My thoughts are as follows... Keep Kobe, Young, Randle, Davis, Clarkson & Price... Hill is a backup plan... Pursue K Love if you have inside information & Brandon Knight (6'3" PG dropping 18 PPG, 7 APG & 6 RPG plus plays defense) & a veteran SF... Draft two impact players with picks... I would also love to steal Austin Rivers from NO... He could thrive in a new situation... Lineup as follows:
PG: Knight & Price
SG: Kobe & Clarkeson (Rivers)
SF: Barnes & Young
PF: Love & Kelly
C: Davis & Okafur (couple other bigs in draft)
If no K Love or LA we pursue Deng or a solid SF... Lineup as follows:
PG: Knight & Price
SG: Kobe & Clarkeson (Rivers)
SF: Deng & Young
PF: Hill & Kelly
C: Davis & Okafur (couple other bigs in draft)
Brandon Knight will be a monster in this league... Kid plays big, attacks the basket & is the reason the Bucks are 7 & 5 right now...

Wouldn't this Houston first rounder be enough to land us Harrison Barnes from Golden State? He's still on the trading block right? I'd move it for a guy like that who has a ton of potential and is a two way player

If Kobe and swag play the rest of the year we are not keeping that pick. If they miss a few weeks we might get a lucky ball to #5, with which we get Stanley Johnson http://www.nbadraft.net/players/stanley-johnson. I like the idea of Brandon Knight or Reggie Jackson at pg, I think they are more realistic than dragic or rondo too. Also Kelly is under contract for a mil next year, not sure why people are leaving him out. We should be able to get a good big in the early 20s with HOUs pick.
Knight Farmar
Kobe Clarkson
Swag Stanley Johnson
Randle Kelly
Marc orAsik orMonroe Hou1st
One other back up Pf/C for cheap. I think Davis is gone for a bigger deal than we want to give him. Farmar is a respectable vet backup pg that brings some familiarity with Kobe and swag since everyone else is new. He also has the balls to look off Kobe.
This squad has shooting, D, depth vets and young guys. Could plug someone like Westbrook(sg) or durant right in in 2016 when Kobe gone.

I watched Stanley Johnson play in HS at Mater Dei. That guy is legit, you could already tell he's gonna be a star in the NBA. Guy can flat out score the ball

Tell me am I crazy in thinking Randle needs to move to the 3?
PG - ??
SG - Bryant, Youngc Clarkson
SF - Randle, Draymond Green, Danny Green, Gerald Green ( one of them would be nice)
PF - Monroe ( just do it), Randle
C - Draft? Baynes?

Randle is not a 3. He can maybe play some minutes, but he is a true 4.

You make a great point leeprettyp, I've been spit"in about Monroe for the last 2 years. But all guys did here was try to down grade his game and I was able to refute everything guys said about him. Now look at his numbers, but besides that he's a solid interior scorer. Also I mentioned Jackson a few times and weather OKC fans realize it or not he's bouncing, just based on the statement he made about seriously wanting to start.....and he is a starter period.
But to the point of which you make about hitting the homerun, I'm so over trying to acquire the big name. Mitch and Jim need to realize the handcuffs that this CBA has placed on teams doing it that way. Those days are over, plus all that does is make it more drama filled with the "it's his team and not his team" bull crap.
Build a team of solid players that can play at all star level, hell maybe 3 or 4 of them will become all stars. I'm not even thinking of getting the big name anymore. Even when the cap goes up it will make it that much easier to keep your franchise players.
This top 5 pick is gonna be awfully hard to attain unless somebody goes down and the team plummets even more. With this draft I only like 3 guys that are a must have....that's Okafor, Towns and Stanley Johnson. It's hard to say how this is gonna turn out for us.

Don't forget we will get to keep our 2nd round pick as well if we end up one of the 10 worst teams. Possibly best case scenario would be a pick from 1-5, 20-25, and 30-35.

The more I watch Reggie Jackson the stronger I feel that should be our target for the PG position.

And we're gonna keep our pick. But I just hope we lower Kobe's minutes and just hopefully make one more playoff run next season in his last season.
Maybe we do make a play for Rondo if he's willing to sign for 14-15mill. But I'd go all in on Reggie Jackson in a heartbeat.
Just think of this new young nucleus.
Randle, Top 5(maybe top 3 pick if lucky), Ed Davis, Reggie Jackson, NIck Young off the bench. Its pretty solid and maybe we keep Wes Johnson around. The guy is a different player when he plays with confidence out there and he wont cost much to keep

If you start Young with Kobe next year, and Clarkson gets youngs minutes off the bench, I think he has a legit chance of becoming a great 6th man. He really should have gone in the 1st rd last year. I just hope they give him some minutes to grow this year. We are 3-13, he should be getting all of price and ellingtons minutes at this point, at least invest in the future.
