Clippers' Own D-League Affiliate in the Works?
Well, if Doc can't develop them himself, having someone else do it is fine by me. Now draft the right players and stop giving away picks.

It's about time. Maybe CJ could get some use out of it next season.
I do wonder where the team would play. Anaheim? Ontario?

I don't think that's likely. Rams owner, Stan Kroenke, is said to be buying up real estate in the area, including eyeing the Forum grounds, to use as the NFL stadium for the Rams' return to Los Angeles. There still is a lot of red tape to deal with, particularly with the NFL trying to dictate terms, but the Rams are seen as the favorite to return back to L.A.

thats a shame as the Rams do have a pretty decent situation in St Louise. it is the Raiders who needs a new stadium and in a hurry.

So do the Chargers and they're making a stink about losing 25% of their draw from So. Cal. should L.A. get a football team again. Last I heard, the Raiders were meeting with officials from San Antonio about moving the football team there, but it's seen as an effort at leveraging for a new stadium in Oakland and to strum up urgency with the L.A. situation.

no matter what they complain about, the Chargers are a team in SD and not LA.
Raiders belong in LA. I don't mind the Rams in LA but Raiders must be there.

C.J. Wilcox Biding His Time
Rowan Kavner, Clippers.com (11/29/14)
Wilcox Staying Patient Until His Time Comes
Rivers said he has had informal, preliminary discussions with owner Steve Ballmer about the possibility of getting their own exclusive affiliate in the NBA Development League, but those discussions haven’t gone far yet. So Wilcox may stay right where he is.
There’s nowhere to send Wilcox right now that Rivers feels he can be guaranteed to play more. Whether or not Wilcox makes his NBA debut soon, Rivers appreciates the attitude Wilcox has had about the situation and noted that the rookie “works his butt off.”
“That’s all you can ask of a young guy, is if he’s not playing, to get his work in, to be ready when his name is called,” Rivers said. “I think he will be.”
Until then, Wilcox will wait his turn as patiently as possible, grasping as much knowledge of the game as he can until that time comes.
“I’ve learned so much,” Wilcox said, “and it’s only going to get better.”

I've wanted this for a long time. Every team should have their own D League team (and maybe change that horrible name) modeled after MLB's AAA system. Make the draft three rounds since you will be stocking a minor league team. The biggest hurdle will be in salary cap ramifications. If you say that a player in the D League doesn't count against the cap then a team can send a high priced bust down to open up space.

sup, don? long time no see man.
and I agree 100% with you here. the NBA can use a system similar to MLB's minor league system. might as well go back to running a 7 rounds of draft too. if we make the rounds past 3 to only be able to hold a player down for just 1 year, i don't see the harm in reintroducing a 7 round draft with a full system of minor leagues.
ehhhhh f it.

I like the idea of Ontario, it is a small, but nice rink that houses the Reign and is probably the right size for a D-League team.
Maybe I can afford to sit on the floor for these Clips?

This is only possible if HS players are allowed in the draft again.

I like Vegas as a spot for the Clips D League. They play there every year already, the city is dying for a team to show how well they can support it and I would get season tickets! (Down side, all those young kids with money here in Vegas would be very very bad!)

Re: Clippers' Own D-League Affiliate in the Works?
I echo Don Tommy's earlier sentiments...if the D-League is ever going to be truly effective, there needs to be a MLB-style system. As it stands, there are seven NBA teams that directly own and operate their D-League teams--Lakers, Sixers, Knicks, Warriors, Spurs, Rockets, and Cavaliers, and all of them at least based locally/regionally close to their parent teams.
It'll be great to have the team based locally, especially when the team is continuing to grow the fanbase.

Im all for high school kids getting drafted. baseball can, hockey can, but not football and basketball and they use excuses such as a kid's size or maturity, but everyone is different. some kids at 18 are 6-7 250 and very mature for grown up in a farm with a busy, hard schedule of labor since childhood. the reason why NFL and NBA have age limits is to provide cheap quality labor to two sports that sell at college level, the NCAA football and basketball. that's it. this is a racketeering at its finest. NBA can use minor league system and I am 100% for it but because they will not want D league to compete with college games so the powers to be will not aggressively pursue this unless they can use that age limit on them too.
anywho, that's my 2 cents about why NBA has yet to get down and dirty to make the D league more organized.
and YES Vegas alone can hold 3-6 teams. one at UNLV, one at Mandalay, the new MGM arena, and various other hotels may be interested in hosting D league games. I can see the Clips, Suns, Nuggets and maybe the other nearby teams who already own a D league team be interested in a Vegas D League.
