Draymond Green discussion...and "californiadude" blackmail.
Ok before you start screaming and saying I should go hang myself with my Warriors jersey, here me out. We all love green, he's a fan favorite and the combination of his D and passing ability are terrific but...We're at cross roads with this roster. I don't think we're going to be able to keep Barnes and Green (don't quote me on this). And it's not crazy for some team to offer him a 4 year 50 million dollar deal. With the cap jumping up some team might think he's worth that because he's a "winner".
Needless to say we're in trouble if that happens. Green is not young and as much as everyone want's to say he's a stretch 4, He's not. I don't think that jump shot is sustainable. Make no mistake I love green's offensive game as role player and he might be one of the 10 most versatile defenders in the NBA but he's not a stretch 4 right now at least. His value is at an all time high, it might be downhill from here especially if he gets paid the way I'm expecting him too. What if we could get Ryan Anderson for him or Mirotic/Gibson and Dump salary at the same time? What if we could package him, Iggy and Lee for KLove? This to me is the biggest decision at the deadline.
Like it or not GSW has to make a trade imo, they just need to decide who it's going to be and whether they want actual value in return. Maybe Green's worth keeping for a ton of money because lord knows he's a terrific player. But if GSW can get a true asset back while dumping salary?? it's not a slam dunk decision but it's something they should look at it. I'm not trying to turn this into a trade thread (hence why it's not being put their) nor am I looking to start a Iggy level shouting fest. But we seriously need to consider all our options, so I'm curious what you guys think.

We're looking at 14-2. You don't trade anybody. You might not even wash anything.

Agreed we should ride it out for the moment this is more of a next offseason/trade deadline sort of thing (although if we're playing like this we shouldn't do anything at the deadline). Maybe this thread's a bit premature but it's at the very least a conversation worth having.

Could start a dialogue I guess, but Lee isn't healthy yet. You can't really make a call on who has to go when its still the first month of the season. We still have 2.5 months to figure something out too..
Just too much could change.

Re: Take three deep breaths but..Is it time to trade Draymon
With Speights emerging, and Lee not having really played yet and not knowing how he effect the team, if we're going to consider trading anyone, Lee's the guy who should be moved which I think is quite possible now, him being an expiring and there should be a few teams out there who could use him to help perk up their offense.
I'm not trading Dray and with another year on Speights contract at < $4M I'd roll with that, considering that Barnes can give us some minutes there as well. Even if Dray does get a big payday, it's be because he deserves it, and will still be considerably less than Lee's $15M due next season.
With the best record in the league (currently tied) all done without Lee, I think that makes him the most expendable player we have right now. We know we're good without him, but we don't know if we're as good with him. And for those who think we might be better, perhaps that's true, but how much better? We're already leading the league in almost everything.

I'd much rather trade Barnes than Dray any day of the week.

If it's a choice between Barnes and Green you are obviously going to pick Green.

Re: Take three deep breaths but..Is it time to trade Draymon
You are right on the "trade at high price" opportunity, the return Green could get for us could be tempting (love the idea of Gibson and Mirotic). We gave up Love to keep Klay and I will bet the Warriors would not too hesitated to trade other players besides the SPlash Bro. Especially when Barns and Green are at their highs.
My preference is to give up Barns and keep Green, reason is I think Green is more rare than Barns, and offense asset could be found easier than defense asset IMO.

Re: Take three deep breaths but..Is it time to trade Draymon
The Warriors aren't in 'get value before someone pays him' mode, they're in 'win championship' mode. You don't cash him out, you win a championship and then decide if you want to go into the lux to keep him.
I agree his offense likely won't remain at this level, but you don't mess with this team unless it's through necessity - if his value falls it falls. If anyone goes on the block it's Lee as most seem to be finally catching up on how expendable he is to the starting unit when even a little of Bogut's offensive ability is utilized, but even though I've long said Lee should be moved I'm not even sure I'd do that right now. This team has serious chemistry.

This team obviously tries to build long-term. There'll be no trade unless some non-declinable offer arrives (which won't happen) or the player is dispensable (which Dray is not).

YES.
HARDBALL. We CAN make it work and we ain't silly enough to DUMP Dray only to pay a lot to whoever.
Dray is a 6-7 tweener F who does not always rack up big numbers. I doubt he gets anything over $10 mill. We appreciate him I think more than some other team with cap space. Few teams have huge cap space. Fewer want to use it on a guy like Dray who's hard to put a value on. We.. meanwhile.... are NOT afraid to spend and he is an RFA.

BTW Draymond has low trade value - teams don't give up assets for "role players."

Not likely. GSW may swap Iggy if there is any deal where we save $, get some asset. That MIGHT not be possible. Speights (like Dray) is a VALUE ... has a future.. has produced.Twinkie defense wrote:No! Trade Mo
Trade.... whoever? STFU. You trade for SOMETHING specific. You do NOT just give away stuff. Trade Mo for WHAT? Therade Dray for WHAT ? I ain't into PANIC BUTTON stupid crap.

I don't want to make any trade, I just don't think Mo can keep this up... he is all time high value right now. Last season I was ready for him to be cut.

Re: Take three deep breaths but..Is it time to trade Draymon
I'd rather trade Lee and his 15M for next season than Mo and his 3.7M. We have Green, Mo and Barnes to man the 4 position and I'm sure we could pick up someone else for real cheap. Right now we're 14-2 with those 3 and don't really know what we're going to get with Lee. Those 3 combined give us more than Lee and then some.

If we are going to trade high we should be talking about Speights.

Hypothetical. BOTH are young, useful, have upside, ain't too costly. If-When they BECOME costly... then...the option mostly is trade for a guy JUST AS costly.. or shed a tear as they leave and we settle for some $ saved.NBAfan3024 wrote:If it's a choice between Barnes and Green you are obviously going to pick Green.
