The Defense: 2014 Season (Update - Haslett Fired)

Post#1 » by Rafael122 » Mon Sep 15, 2014 1:36 pm

Read on Twitter that the Skins have the #1 defense in the NFL! This team seems to be loaded with playmakers, Kerrigan feasted on the Jaguars as did Jason Hatcher who has proven to be a difference maker for this team. They're missing Cofield and Rambo has been absolute garbage but it seems as though we have better talent on that side of the ball this year.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

As much as we all loved London Fletcher, the speed at LB has also made a difference. Once Ihenacho is ready to play and the full D-Line rotation is healthy, we'll be even better.

I completely forgot about Keenan Robinson who has also played really well. He's barely played the last two years because of injuries but he's stepped into the Fletcher role pretty well. I've always thought Haslett got screwed b/c Shanny never improved the defense while he was here. It was made a priority this offseason and no ****, Haslett looks like a competent defensive coach again.

We also can't forget that Merriweather comes back next week. If they can shut down Philly, I'll be sold that this is an elite group.

While I'm not a big Merriweather fan, he's got to be a huge step up from Rambo. Rambo's got a great name, but wow was he a bad NFL player. The only question is - what to they do when Merriweather gets suspended again?

Unfortunately, the schedule gets harder. How do you stop both McCoy and Sproles. Sproles is absurdly fast and quick. They will test the athleticism and tackling ability of Washington's defense.

Those two are going to pick us apart. Just hope they find a way to prevent the deep ball.

It looks like part of the strategy in keeping the Iggs' offense off the field is to let them return kicks for TDs. Brilliant!

If you are watching the colts skins game you will know we have the worst defense in the history of highschool, college, arena, Canadian, flag, touch, madden, techmo, throw up tackle or pro football!

Don't forget electric football. LOL

First order of business in the offseason - get a new D-coordinator. (Hey, isn't Rex Ryan about to get fired?) Second order of business - spend all free agent money on defensive players. Third order of business - use all draft picks on defensive players.

Maybe they also pickup an offensive lineman in between there somewhere, but that's it. EVERY resource they have MUST go towards improving defense between now and next season. Heck, I'd start right now by picking up undrafted FAs that didn't stick with other teams and seeing if they can do anything with us. Can't be worse that what we saw Sunday.

Yeah Gruden pulled a quick misdirect by saying "look look RG3 sucks.." While the rest of the team is as bad or worse than the qbs.

Jim Haslett is no longer part of Jay Gruden's coaching staff in Washington.

The team announced a mutual parting of the ways between Gruden and Haslett, who has been the team's defensive coordinator since 2010 but survived the regime change because of his close ties with Gruden.

"Jim and I have had discussions over the last few days and have decided that it's best for everyone that we have a new defensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins," Gruden said in a statement released by the team. "I wish him nothing but the best in the future."
