I think the problem with the NW game is that if Stave played the whole time he wouldn't have been "green" enough in that game to make said stupid mistake (who knows, obviously).
More importantly, Ludwig calling dropback passes on every play in the first half would have actually been OK. Ludwig didn't give TM any read option in the first half and ran a bunch of dropback passes. I would contend they'd have been in the lead if they had either just given McEvoy the right plays or gone with Stave all game. They would have been ahead at halftime in either case most likely. Once Stave came in, it was clear that if Ludwig didn't want to utilize the read-option that Stave made the offense way better.
