Make the draft three rounds since you will be stocking a minor league team. The biggest hurdle will be in salary cap ramifications. If you say that a player in the D League doesn't count against the cap then a team can send a high priced bust down to open up space.

sup, don? long time no see man.

and I agree 100% with you here. the NBA can use a system similar to MLB's minor league system. might as well go back to running a 7 rounds of draft too. if we make the rounds past 3 to only be able to hold a player down for just 1 year, i don't see the harm in reintroducing a 7 round draft with a full system of minor leagues.

Hey Ned, I've been here, mostly at night so no one sees me checking the site out. Just a lot going on so I haven't been on here much

hey man, Hope everything works out good for you. post time to time so we know you are still alive and well!

I dont think that all NBA teams need to own their own affiliate, but there are already 18 teams, and with the revenue coming in a few other teams will likely look at adding a tied affiliate. The key here would be to be able to tie more players to the affiliate/NBA franchises so that there are more players under contract with the minor league franchise. This is something that I think will be brought up in the next CBA talks.

If the above can happen, then it is only a matter of time before the maximum salary begins to rise and advertising continues to develop. The league hit the 1 million mark in attendance for the 5th straight season and is slowly growing in popularity. Even more important is the ability for teams to advertise on their uniforms and continue to add corporate sponsors (up to 19 total right now).

Finally, take a look at what The Rockets' affiliate in Rio Grande did last season. Daryl Morey is using his affiliate to test new in-game strategies based on his statsical findings. The emphasis for the entire season was to take as many layups/dunks and threes as possible. They lead the leage in shot attempts in the restricted area by 68 attempts and from three by 484. This is the type of thing that can make the D-League a viable resource before even discussing expanded roster and age limits.

Now you have the potential for kids to skip college (if the age limit is eventually raised) and bolt to the D-League. I dont think many will do it, but if max salaries rise due to increased funding and revenues, kids could be making nearly $1 mil per year (with a massive endorsement deal ala Jennings and Mudiay).
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

we need this for player development.
If Doc is soooo intent on not playing our rookies, they should be somewhere else getting reps.

I often look at how the Spurs have molded Danny Green into a very useful piece for their championship team.

It's important that Doc sees the value in CJ, Bullock and even Cunningham….that he invests time in these guys, and brings them up to speed so they can help our franchise win a championship.

theyre not worth much on the market…so a trade doesnt help us.
but if we develop them, they relieve CP of so much hell going into his 30s.
Doc has to invest in our young guys….I think he might be losing sight of that in the pursuit of victories and trying to meet expectations.

oh and yea, maybe theyre just not ready.
