So will Smoak be our starting 1B unless we get an unexpected upgrade later?

No, EE is the starting 1B. Smoak would be a bench player.

I don't think this scrub is even worth $1M. Not sure what they see in him.

If no other 1B options are acquired, then I would assume Encarnacion and Smoak will share 1B and DH duties, with Valencia platooning with Smoak.

It didn't make sense for the Jays to pay Smoak's buyout, only to get rid of him. Seems like AA's plan all along was to re-negotiate a smaller salary for him.

Should have non-tendered Estrada and signed him at lower salary.

You can say that again.

I think EE himself and management want him to be the full time DH because he's awful defensively.

Yes, outside of a return to 2013 production against righties, he's a wasted roster spot, regardless of the cost.

I get that i'm harping on this point, but what does this team see in Estrada and/or Smoak that justifies spending Lind's salary on the both of them. Lind and Valencia would have made for a pretty great platoon at DH. Adding Smoak to the equation, eh, not so much.

I'm fine with EE being the DH. I'm not fine with replacing him with Smoak.

Smoak isn't really an exciting option at 1B. He's a replacement level player. At least we're only paying him $1 million now instead of the projected arbitration amount. I guess we can live with a replacement level player at a replacement level wage playing 1B for 1 year.

Wow man, you really have a hard on for Korean baseball. Half of your posts are about the league, or its players.

Probably more

Just saying, Smoak is ****.

Yeah, he's a bum.

I'm in Korea from Feb-Mid March. When does the season run from?

Usually starts in late March. I wanna say a week or two before opening day.

Might be able to catch a pre-season game though.
