Kerr's success and his players' insane development this season tells you all you need to know about Jackson. He's best off making up more slogans to spam while sitting in the commentators' areas.

There's a good lesson in management here for everyone.

You can't and shouldn't be afraid of hiring people smarter than yourself.

No one expects you to be good at everything, but they do expect you to surround yourself with people who complement your strengths and weaknesses.

not only didn't he hire top assistants, he had to turn around and fire one of the guys he did hire because that assistant was secretly recording his conversations.

I don't know anything about Lacob, but I agree with his comments about "Management 101". I have 60-70 employees working for me at any given time. I'm a HUGE believer in cultivating a culture that is conducive to a healthy work place. One where people can concentrate on getting their tasks done without major distractions. If there's one guy on my management team that my staff can't stand, I have to weigh that against their performance and decide "is this person's performance outweighing the distraction he's causing within the culture of my organization". Since culture is a top priority for me, the answer is almost never "yes".

Mark Jackson learned a swift lesson about keeping the people who pay you happy. You can't alienate your employer and submit your co-workers to the burden of your ego, and expect to keep your job. That's true in all walks of life. Leaders and managers have to empower the people working under them and give them a voice. Listen to what they're saying. Mark Jackson most likely wanted yes-men for assistants, so his ego could continue to be fed. Kerr is showing what a difference a good leader can make in an organization's culture. He hires the best assistants, gives them a voice, listens, takes some of their suggestions and follows through. No ego. Sounds like a Jerry West-run organization. Well done.

Still though I think Jackson was a good coach who did get results so really the idea of who's got great assistants is objective. The Warriors won with Jackson. That could be the last word on just about everything if thats your perception. In any case, he might have to admit to not being flexible before and how much he now understand the value of advanced metrics and organizational influences.

Essentially he'll have to play politics if he wants another job and I think he's a better coach than a politician.

Jackson tried to turn the players against John Stockton. This is nothing new. Jackson is a grade a jack a$$ if entire organization hates you. Good ridance and most likely will never get an opportunity to coach again.

If only he disappears we dont have to hear his terrible commentary.

Lacob is spot on about Kerr's coaching staff. You can't do much better than Alvin Gentry and Ron Adams for assistants. Pretty sure the Bulls, and Thibs in particular, greatly miss having Adams around.

He comes across as extremely insecure and arrogant. Its a terrible sign when someone has beef with their assistant because they work too hard or are too good. This happend more than once. This guy is not a leader he is a chump.

Perhaps. But this is the question: If given unlimited money to employee the best basketball minds in the business as his assistants, why wouldn't he hire someone WHEN HE WAS A ROOKIE COACH? Hiring the best people is not playing politics...it's smart. And two things can be equally true "Jackson was a good motivator but he wasn't a good tactician" Warriors won...but maybe they win more with better assistants.

Anyway....I think it came down to "Hey Mark, I think this team could be better with better coaching" Mark..."Umm....back off...we are winning my way and we don't need more help".

that's a good post. no one likes bullies at the workplace.

you can have a very high-iq person who's a jerk and doesn't know how to get well with others.

when kerr was a telecaster, i got the impression that he was a sensible guy that was honest and who had fun with marv albert.

I'd be curious to hear what Jackson's assistants think of this.

Marc Jackson's strategy from day 1 is clear.
He knows he sucks, so he just does his best to become buddies with his players and f everyone else.
He figures as long as the players support him, that's all that is needed to keep his job, and that strategy worked for some time I suppose.

#1 Rule of Management = hire people smarter than yourself

Jackson was to proud or whatever to do it, Kerr is doing it. Lacob, coming from a biz background, understands this.

I didn't get that booing. GS wasn't going anywhere with Monta. I wonder what they think of Lacob now?

As mediocre a coach I believe Jackson to be, I don't know why this needed to be said in public. I guess Jackson is a talker too and has said some things, so I don't think Lacob is really in the wrong here.

Kerr's done a lot of good too, but let's wait more than 20 games to give all the praise to him. Same thing actually happened when Jackson took over, but it just happened to coincide with young players getting better, which is exactly what happened this year (Bogut being healthy is a huge plus too). I do agree that Kerr is better than Jackson already though.
