Game #19: LA Clippers (13-5) vs New Orleans (8-9)

Post#1 » by og15 » Sat Dec 6, 2014 4:39 am

When: Saturday December 6th @ 7:30 pm (PST)

TV: Prime Ticket

Injury Report: CDR who had been suffering from a partially torn Achilles since training camp was reported to be returning to practice Friday which might mean a return to the court for him pretty soon.

Sticking the the home theme, the Pelicans come to town along with the man himself, Anthony Davis. Despite the production of Davis, the Pelicans have not played that well as a team, more so defensively than offensively, but Davis' individual production has helped mask the relative ineffectiveness of their guards so far this season. In addition, Ryan Anderson has not been the shot maker he was in the past so far this season, and with a .517 TS% while tied for 3rd in FGA for the team, it just isn't enough.

The Clippers on the other hand are on a 6 game winning streak and have won their last 4 games by 16 or more points and actually 5/6 wins have been by 16+ points.

Blake Griffin last 4 games:
25.5 PPG | 8.0 RPG | 3.3 APG | 60% FG | 86.4% FT | 29.7 MPG

Great production that is even better when you consider he's doing it in jut 30 minutes a game.

Chris Paul last 6 games:
17.2 PPG | 3.2 RPG | 9.5 APG | 1.5 TPG | 60% FG | 48% 3PT | 15/15 FT

Redick last 6 games:
16.3 PPG | 51.6% FG | 44.7% 3PT

Paul and Redick producing in 32.5 and 28 mpg respectively. The Clippers have done what they should do and feasted on the weaker teams. The Pelicans while not a good defensive team so far do possess great length and that will be something the Clippers have to take into account. The Pelicans also have the ability to break out on offense, so the Clippers will also have to be ready defensively, and keeping Tyreke Evans from consistently getting to the paint will be of prime importance.

Excited to watch Blake & DJ go up against AD. Jamal is due for a big game after being cold in the last two, but to be honest I'd rather there was no need for him to take over and just have Redick and Barnes continue to play solid.
Let's keep our momentum and get another win!

I am excited to see this game at Staples, UniBrow is the complete package, but our guys have been playing like a unit. Maybe the Clips needed to have a road trip earlier in the season to become a team?
I think, but I am still hoping that the Clips stay on track and really work on moving up in the standings.

I almost thought it wasn't.

But then I thought that the day off after the whooping GSW put on them would help them get their bearings straight.

I think they come out tonight with something to prove.
I think Anthony Davis tries to leave no doubt that he's better than Blake tonight too.

oh and he is better than Blake.

He won't be tonight. I have a feeling Blake comes out with something to prove himself, and puts on a show.

I think the Pelicans are a pretty good team, I don't expect this one to be easy. I hope we're ready and we can keep our winning streak going.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

You just can't make up for length like Davis has. Blake is great and works hard, but if Davis is working just as hard, Blake is fighting an uphill battle to keep up with him. This is highlighted especially on defense where Davis will automatically be miles ahead with just his physical tools. It's like if DJ and Blake both put the same effort on defense, DJ has more impact every time because Blake is just too little. Even in the post, he doesn't have the strength, etc yet, but finishing in the close but not right at the basket range, the length does wonders for a player to get shots up and over defenders.

Add to all this that the guy has great defensive instincts, is a very good mid-range shooter, great offensive awareness in terms of getting to spots and getting open, just a great player altogether.

Agreed. They are still a .500 level team, and against a team like that, a good matchup, someone gets hot, etc, and it's a tough game

The odd thing about Davis is the way he plays on offense actually reminds me a lot of rookie Blake (plus he has a midrange). He's always moving to the hoop and staying active for easy buckets both within sets and in transition. I wish Blake would bring some of that back into his game. I get that some of it is systematic, but I think it'd be beneficial to incorporate more of that type of play again.

or self preservation. if Blake gets continue to get hacked the way he has in the past while going strong to the hoop, he may not see the floor when he is 30.
