And let's say that he adds one dominant post move and a counter. And let's say that his ball handling and shot improve even on an average progression in respect to his age and experience. I'm not sure there has ever been a 6'11 player that has brought all that to the table.

There's always a comparison, but there's never an exact match. That's the fun and usefulness of these kinds of discussions for me. You posit similarities, but you have to acknowledge differences as well, and there's a lot to Giannis that may prove (in the root sense of the word) incomparable.

If the Pippen comparison seems right to some (including me), I think wingspan and stride length have a lot to do with it. Despite their height difference, Giannis and Scottie have/had about the same wingspan (variously reported up to about 7'4"). Both also exploit/exploited their long arms and legs to do things on both ends of the court that leave a strong visual impression. Pippen driving had about the longest stride I can remember after young Wilt, and Giannis's stride may be longer.

Sure. I think we are both (all) excited about the possibility that we might see some things from Giannis that have never been put together in one package. Getting in to the minutiae of what constitutes a comparison would be silly. This might be getting off track, but I still think there is a strong chance that Jabari will be a better overall player. And yet, I am drawn to Giannis, since there is that possibility of something that breaks any mold that has been used in the past. This is the most fascinating current part of Bucks basketball to me, watching him develop the habits and tendencies and rivalries that will ultimately shape the kind of player this shape shifting perimeter oriented seven footer turns in to.

Has the second coming of Jesus (Shuttlesworth) been taken? I'll take that one.

Very easy. Very, very easy.

Apparently people are worse at detecting sarcasm when I actually use green font

He doesn't play like Kevin Durant at all, its a stupid comparison.

It's pretty fun to go back to the first pages of this thread to see people's initial reaction to Giannis, and then see how far he has come today.

Yep, it really is. Probably should've used a lighter shade of green....

Well I couldn't tell that it was green and I still can't.

I'm still going to assume that you were being serious and I hate you now!

Green... like a healthy grass type of green. Not like lime green... or fake vomit green.

Most hopefully that has something to do with youth. I love this pick. It's already been said that he plans to come over this year so he will be using a roster spot immediately. Now all we need is Wolters to drop to us.

Who is this calling/hoping for the Wolters pick?

There are no words for how depressing it would've been to pick Larkin over Giannis. It makes me sad just thinking about it.

One of my favorite things to do is to go on twitter when Giannis has done something great and see the Celtics fan who curses life for taking Olynyk over him.

Imagine how this thread would have been if it was known right then that Atlana had offered their two draft picks for Giannis.

There would have been a meltdown.

Anyone remember when Hammond said something to the tune of "we were so excited and relieved that Giannis fell to us at 15"? what a joker

Giannis would be a Pippen level defender right now if he was allowed to hand-check.

Gotta give credit to Hammond. He knows talent and is a great scout. If only he could negotiate better trades.

I want Giannis to have a George Gervin-style finger roll shot. With his long stride and very big hands / long fingers that may become extremely effective.
