6 years, $155 M ... wow
Heard the Giants offered 6 years, $150 M... so they offered $5 M less to Panda and Lester and lost out on both

Apparently he turned down 7 years from the Giants. Must fear the big earthquake.

we do need a righty more so than a lefty in case Greinke bolts. and Max is flat out the better player here for the next 2-3 years, although as any long term contract for a pitcher, it can come back to bite us in his latter 2-3 years.
but first, we need to dump Kemp and Crawford. I say trade Kemp to SD for Yasmani plus one of their stud starting pitchers, if not for a boat load of their prospects and the said catcher. then turn around and use Dee as a bait to trade Crawford and his atrocious contract. after that, we have the needed fund under the planned budget to go sign Scherzer or, as I have proposed while ago in dodger forum, trade for Hamel and Rollins. the phillies want to shed salary and gain prospects. as Joc is slated to start this upcoming season at CF and Corey waiting the next season, we can use Zach Lee along with our most prized prospect Urias, and a few other fillers who are major league ready such as Tim Fed and/or Red to pull the trigger. if we can do both and can keep Haren as the long man/ spot starter in case of an injury, we would absolutely find our ways deep into playoffs against any foe.
if there was any way to keep Kemp while gaining some value back to trade Ethier, I would. but the reality is that Ether's value is higher with us as he can play all 3 outfield positions and if given steady at bat, he can perform at least to what Crawford's OPS was last season despite what Carl's BA said.
ehhhhh f it.

So who the hell is going to fork over $180MM+ and a draft pick for Max Scherzer?

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
BTW, those of you who are surprised by Jon Lester's decision to sign with the Cubs over the Giants,
the state of Illinois have state income tax of 5%.
155 - 5%income tax of 7.75 = 147.25 before the federal income tax for 6 years.
compared to the State of California's income tax
168 - 12.3%income tax of California at 20.664 = 147.336 before the federal income tax for 7 years.
would you work a whole year for free?

trust me on this one. I am a graduate of Grant High in LA. after finishing my college and post bac research in LA i did my doctorate at UCSF. San Francisco is freaking cold from fall to spring. especially if you live anywhere by the water, it can get very uncomfortable in a hurry.

late spring to early fall.
trust me, I was there when the PacBell park had just opened back in the day against the Dodgers for the very first time of its birth. this is the week where Kevin Elster hit 3 home runs against the giants in a single game. I was there with a broom for the sunday game and we swept them for good. it was freaking cold that day i was shivering.
PS- the east bay is always warm during the baseball season. they used to sell a 3 dollar seat on Wednesdays and i used to take Bart to get to the Coliseum. SF was very different in terms of weather. you would not have the slightest idea unless you lived in that city.
ehhhhh f it.
