^good point there's nothing Jose could do about pitching.
it doesn't seem like we have guys that "hate" losing if you know what I mean, mabey that's somthing AA and management saw and rather than call Bautista out publicly they brought in guys like Martin and Donaldson who have some competitive Fire and a taste for the postseason

We're back to the pseudopsychology here, I'm afraid. Know why a bunch of players took management to task in the media? Because they had a taste for the postseason.
Unfortunately for this theory the players who undermined it -- the endless parade of fail documented previous -- are the guys who'd also have been most motivated, because their careers were effectively on the line. But competitive fire and guts and chutzpah and pizazz and whatever just doesn't overcome 'not good at baseball'.

**** your asterisk.

Gotta have the chutzpah! My friend who is a Yankee fan, told me today he's not really a fan of Headley because he didn't seem to, "get hits when he needed to".

Re: Jays looking to replace Beeston
According to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, Edward Rogers, son of the late Ted Rogers, did call White Sox president Jerry Reinsdorf to ask about hiring Kenny Williams during the World Series. He called Kenny Williams too.

Both Kenny Williams, the Chicago White Sox executive vice president, and Baltimore Orioles general manager Dan Duquette are candidates as the Jays actively sought Beeston’s replacement, according to an ESPN story on Sunday.
Williams said Monday that he had been contacted by someone from Rogers Communications.
The name of the Rogers employee who got the presidential ball rolling down hill and into the public relations gutter remains unknown.
However, Edward Rogers, son of the late Ted Rogers, did call White Sox president Jerry Reinsdorf to ask about hiring Williams during the World Series. He called Williams too.
Reinsdorf said he was not granting permission for Williams to interview.
“What I actually said is that I’d consider granting permission once we put our team together and once I get a request from the Toronto Blue Jays,” said Reinsdorf on Tuesday outside the Manchester Grand Hyatt at baseball’s winter meetings.
“I’m not responding to a request from Edward Rogers a beneficiary. You have to follow baseball procedure. A request for permission to interview someone has to be put in writing.”
Under new Rogers boss Guy Laurence, both Edward Rogers and his sister Melinda have been removed from the day-to-day operations of Rogers Communications even though they are major share holders in the company.

ESPN Buster says Duquette-to-Toronto is still alive, that statements to the contrary are about posturing for negotiations. Angelos is a hard bargainer and will let Duquette go if he gets adequate compensation.

So Beeston's contract ran out with no one really knowing or talking about it. Does this mean that AA is going directly to the board trying to convince them why he needs relievers to win baseball games?

He's still working (last Elliott reported a few days ago). Also said he'd be staying on all season.

He can't have much pull these days. He's close to retirement and is there as mostly a figurehead now. I wish they would have had this set up long before his contract expired. His position is meant to be more than just the guy who convinces the board to spend more on payroll.

Or not.
A new name is being floated, Mike Rizzo of the Washington Nationals
It seems as if somebody in Rogers is trying really hard to move on from Beeston.

What do we think of Rizzo vs. the other candidates ?
Off the top of my head:
- Drafted Harper and Strasburg
- Signed Jayson Werth for big $$$ $126M

Terry Ryan
Kenny Williams
Dan Duquette
Mike Rizzo
When are they going to approach Billy Beane or Farhan Zaidi?

Keith Law joked that the Jays off-season plan is to ask each team for a CEO and therefore destabilize all of MLB.

The Nationals haven't been contacted at all by the Blue Jays regarding any potential interest in Mike Rizzo for their team president position, a source with direct knowledge said Saturday afternoon.
A report by ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick earlier in the day said Toronto has "expressed interest" in Rizzo as a candidate to replace Paul Beeston as team president and CEO, citing two industry sources.
The Blue Jays may have discussed Rizzo internally, but they have not yet made any contact with the Nationals about their GM, who was promoted to president of baseball operations and inked to a long-term extension in 2013.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nat ... ike-rizzo/
UPDATE, 8:15 p.m.: Mike Rizzo shot down the reported Toronto interest. His statement to the Post: “I have not been contacted by the Toronto Blue Jays. My sole focus is on the Washington Nationals and bringing a World Series championship to the District.”
ORIGINAL POST, 5:53 p.m.: The Toronto Blue Jays have expressed interest in Nationals General Manager and President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo as a candidate to replace Paul Beeston team president and CEO, according to an ESPN report. But, according to a person familiar with the situation, the Nationals and Rizzo have not been contacted by the Blue Jays.
Rizzo, who was busy with NatsFest activities when the ESPN report came out, didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment. Members of the Nationals’ front office appeared floored by the report.
“We won’t comment on rumor and speculation,” a team spokesman said. But if the Blue Jays were indeed interested in Rizzo, their pursuit would be spearheaded by the team’s owners, Rogers Communications.
Rizzo joins a group of successful executives who have been linked to the Blue Jays. Reports have mentioned Baltimore’s Dan Duquette, Minnesota’s Terry Ryan and Chicago’s Kenny Williams among potential candidates to replace Beeston, who still holds his position.

Re: Jays looking to replace Beeston
Buster Olney, in an Insider column, says the Commissioner's office is leaning on the Orioles to let Duquette go to the Jays.
Olney says Angelos should consider asking the Jays for one or two top prospects: from a list like Stroman, Sanchez, Hoffman, Pentecost.
I puked at that thought.
Olney says Angelos should consider asking the Jays for one or two top prospects: from a list like Stroman, Sanchez, Hoffman, Pentecost.
But Toronto's interest in Duquette is serious enough that the Jays' ownership has been backed in its pursuit by the commissioner's office, which has encouraged the two sides to have a dialogue.
This is an extraordinary situation, to ask a team to allow the highest-ranking executive within its successful baseball operations department to leave to take a job with another organization that is a direct competitor; the Jays, after all, are in the AL East like the Orioles.
So Angelos would be well within his rights to ask for extraordinary compensation, and for the sake of the Orioles' organization, he should consider all possibilities. He should at least ask the Jays' ownership for a couple of the Jays' best prospects in return for Duquette, who wants to pursue the Jays' CEO job.
...
Marcus Stroman, the Jays' highly touted young pitcher who had a 3.65 ERA in 26 games last season; Aaron Sanchez, a relief pitcher who allowed just 14 hits in his first 33 innings in the big leagues last summer; Daniel Norris, a left-hander who advanced from Class A to the big leagues; Jeff Hoffman, the Jays' first-round pick in 2014; Max Pentecost, a 21-year-old catcher; or Richard Urena, a 19-year-old shortstop.
I puked at that thought.

Re: Jays looking to replace Beeston
Stroman or Sanchez??? That's pure comedy!
And i wouldn't give a single top prospect for Duquette
Hire Farhan Zaidi and call it a day.

Any compensation comparison should look at the Farrell situation. We reluctantly gave up our beloved manager to the Sox - whom he proceeded to lead to a WS championship - for Mike Aviles. So Izturis or Goins could go back.
If they insist on a pitching prospect - Drabek. Done and done.
