I still believe in Beal. Wall's level of play should be a lesson to all of you, it takes time for young talent to blossom. But I expect the Beal that showed up in the playoffs to re-appear sooner or later.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I think that with young players you just don't know. In recent times we have had some youngsters make the jump and lots not make the jump.
Personally, I would be really happy if Beal developed into a really good 3 and D SG. If you have KD, you don't need much more.

Re: Bradley Beal - Part II
His limitations weren't as big as Walls. Wall had to learn how to change speeds, learn a half court game, and become a reasonable jump shooter. He managed to do all of that sometime in year 3 after returning from injury.
Beal doesn't have nearly as much to improve on. He improved his handle mightily from year 1 to 2, but at the moment I've seen no improvement from year 2 to 3. Right now I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him more time. The league MVP last year is struggling (comparatively) as well while returning from injury, so not everyone responds the same way.

I don't think we would want to do anything but give him time. And I don't haven't seen the "are we better off without Beal" threads or the "let's trade Beal" threads.
Question is what are his limitations. I would think handles would be #1, D would be #2.
He seems clutch - so that won't be the issue, IMO.

Re: Bradley Beal - Part II
I really don't see limitations when I watch Beal. Biggest thing for him, I think, is to gain experience and improve decision-making. I'd like to see him get better at everything. Given his work ethic, I don't see why he wouldn't.

I just hate that keystone cops play they run for him sometimes. So easy to defend, why even bother?

Beal will be fine... missing the start of the year didn't help. He's probably still trying to find his rhythm.

So, what is worrisome with Beal is the lack of trend. With Wall, there was a trend... Nivek, do your numbers back this up or show a different story.
That doesn't mean there won't be a step function with Beal - just hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Re: Bradley Beal - Part II
Beal has played only 12 games after coming back from his injury so it is obviously a small sample size.
With Wall his current numbers aren't better than the past two years but i think this is actually the best start he has ever had. He typically picks it up after the new year. He has gotten off to some weak starts in past seasons.

Actually, I would argue that Wall's numbers are better AND he will probably zoom later in the year.
Agreed on Beal, injuries, et. al., but... still don't like the trend. Hopefully he breaks out later in the season.

Re: Bradley Beal - Part II
Here's a really positive note on Beal though:
I've always compared him to Klay Thompson for obvious reasons. Even on Klays third season, it wasn't really a "breakout year". It was similar to what Beal did last year, decently high numbers at average FG% and a poor overall PER.
Obviously Klay is breaking out now in his fourth year. But despite Klay only having one extra year of experience than Brad in the NBA, he's three years older than Brad.
So that's a really positive way to say that Beal has plenty of time to develop even if a breakout doesn't happen this year.

wall is the best player on wiz by a country Mile but we Need Beal to be our best player if we are going to make strides. We have a top 5 point- lately top two-. Right now Beal isn't even a top 5 two guard in east.
Jimmy Butler might start in allstar game?!?!

John Wall is on his way to being a legit superstar, a top 10 overall player. He's not there yet, but he's in the top 20 and still improving.
I don't think Beal needs to be better than Wall, but he needs to be better than he is right now. Right now, Beal is merely an average starting SG, if that. We need him to be an All-Star.

No doubt the talent and work ethic are there. It's the bad habits that Wittman and Cassell have drilled into him that concern me. It's the only reason I'd consider bringing in Ray Allen...to unlearn all that junk.

What exactly are those bad habits? As outsiders, I think it's hard for us fans to know for sure what exactly has been "drilled into" Beal (and any other player) by Zard coaches.

After what the Wizards are seeing with Rasual Buter, you never know.
