Oh man, you have to add Oliveira/Hioki to this list.

Rockhold/Boetsch and Benavidez/Elliott also wouldn't be bad additions, and I'm also surprised that Palhares name didn't show up considering he just kneebarred a dude that used to be known as unsubmittable at AKA.

This category was so tough this year. A lot of quality subs but few obvious no brainers. If a handful of people are in agreement on something needing to be added, I will add it to the nominees. Either in this category or any of the others.

Yea I'm fine with whatever, people may not see it the way I do but I appreciate it a lot more when its an accomplished dude you are applying the submission to

Krylov sucks, for example, so who cares? Von flue choke is basically an intelligence test that few whitebelts even fail more than once or twice. Its more an embarrassment to the dude being choked than a credit to the dude choking. Hioki on the other hand, is super high level.

Okay, you won me over. I added it as a 6th option. Those are two of my favorite fighters too.

Just to be clear, when I said super high level I meant at grappling. Hioki is good but he has had a tough run in the ufc although it hurts that he lost a few of those decisions when he was atttacking off his back the whole match.

Hioki is the kind of fighter who would have thrived back in the olden days before point fighting. He has that Sakuraba/Gracie wait forever to make something happen style.

I think it's gotta be the first omaplata in the UFC by Killa B., or the moonwalk choke by Dantas. I went with Dantas, but I might be biased. One of my five favorite fighters in the sport. He's coming back for his belt soon, fake baddest man on the planet. So you deal with that.

Dantas or Saunders.

I think Dantas' looked cooler, so I voted for him.

PS - Thanks for posting the gifs RZ, I wouldn't have remembered any of them otherwise.

Agree with the reasoning behind Hioki.

But damn, that Dantas choke was sick.

I went with Dantas too, if only so you can't call me a Bellator hater for at least another week. :)

For whatever reason, Bellator always has a bunch of quality submissions each year.

Probably because Coker/Bjorn don't give the refs secret hand signals to stand up fights a la Lorenzo to Herb Dean during the Hendricks/Lawler fight. :)
