I think you meant to say the #2 pick, which is always a huge asset in any year.

This draft is the best opportunity to do that. We haven't had a center since our first championship. With these random injuries its almost like the basketball gods are telling us something. There are a plethora of big men just waiting to be drafted:

Karl Towns
Jahlil Okafor
Willie Cauley-Stein
Dakari Johnson
Trey Lyles
Frank Kaminsky

It's a great opportunity to create some separation from small ball and embrace post mismatches once again.

Case in point. Now, I don't advocate something as disrespectful to the game as what the Sixers are doing, but if losing is inevitable this season, let's go down as a team that competed but just wasn't good enough. Jahlil Okafor would be a godsend to this franchise after LeBron's departure. Having an aging Wade, still-effective Bosh and a young franchise center like Okafor would make it even easier to bring in a talented guard-forward combo.

Disclaimer: For all of you watching from elsewhere, this is merely a silly hypo based off of what could happen if Miami's season bottoms out in the best way possible, so don't go thinking Miami's planning to tank.

Thinking from a long-term perspective, Miami would (if successful in winning the Okafor sweepstakes) only really need more wings and added size/defense on the bench.

PG: Shabazz Napier - FA - FA
SG: Dwyane Wade - Mario Chalmers - Andre Dawkins
SF: Luol Deng - James Ennis - FA
PF: Chris Bosh - FA - Justin Hamilton
C: Jahlil Okafor - Hassan Whiteside - FA

I trust Riley's abilities to build a team, especially with a power rotation secured. Guards will inevitably free up as we get closer to 2016, and with Wade aging, guys will be intrigued by the idea of joining a serious contender with the chance to build on a legacy of great guard play in Miami. It will assist the pitch.

Nicolas Batum, Joe Johnson, Wilson Chandler, George Hill, Courtney Lee, O.J. Mayo, Ryan Anderson, James Johnson, Nene, Eric Gordon, and yes, LeBron James are all scheduled to be free agents that summer. All of them could help this team return to the NBA Finals with a Wade-Bosh-Okafor core.

Best post of the night. Now that's the kind of future I can look forward to. Though I'd pencil in Towns instead of Okafor. Better defender and rebounder by a decent margin.

I always had a bad feeling about this signing. I hope he recovers and comes back strong.

I really thought he would be great for us, even when he was in sometimes he just looked lost. His play has improved recently but damn what **** luck

The only good thing is because he didn't even play so much with us, it's not like the team will miss him

The NEED his play making abilities tho. But meh, next year when he actually has training camp and **** with this team it might be better

I would not give up on McBob yet, he is just having a rough year.

Feel sorry for Josh and the Heat.

He was just getting into the system and he looked dangerous. Nice passer and his 3 is good even if he did lack confidence in it. Good off the ball movement and intelligence.

Last time we tanked we were in position to draft Kevin Love or Russell Westbrook.

Not advocating a tank - but it's based on how you look at it.

Guess I'd feel better about it if our draft history was better.

Outside of Beasley, is our drafting that bad?

Wade at 5 - was no given, Kaman was nearly taken, a lot of people thought Hinrich or TJ Ford was going to be the pick. Some people were calling for Lampe

Caron Butler was a coup at 10th pick. It was no given Miami was taking him, but look at the picks that followed

That's 2 out of 3 lotto picks that were BPA, and the other was definitely a pressure pick in that Beasley was the consensus. There were definitely rumours that Riley wanted Mayo or Love, but didn't have the guts to go through with it (on that basis though, he did want Kaman over Wade). Derrick Rose was Miami's clear first choice, only lost out by Chicago jumping from something like 7th to 1st. Rose, Love and Westbrook are all candidates for BPA, injuries not withstanding.

We were 1 pick position off having 3 lottos and 3 BPA.

Our recent 1st round picks other than lotto:
Shabazz Napier (21st)
Norris Cole (28th)
Daequan Cook (21st)
Wayne Simien (29th)
Dorell Wright (19th)

3 out of 5 picks, all 19th or later, still in the league, I'd wager most teams would have a worse strike record than that at end of first round. Only really snuffed on Simien, as David Lee was available.

2nd Round picks in someones rotation:
Justin Hamilton
Mario Chalmers
Rasual Butler

Undrafted:
Udonis Haslem

I think we draft well in general, at least above average. We just rarely have high picks. Beasley is really the Heat's only major blemish

Beasley was the clear consensus no.2. We can't be faulted there. We should bemoan the stupid rule that stops the worst record getting the no.1 pick.

It was put in place to stop blatant tanking. Now the team with the worse record has a 25% of getting the 1st pick. Instead of 100%.

I honestly think with a healthy roster and time for chemistry to develop we could have made some noise this year, but with Wade and Bosh missing games and now this, that hope becomes more dim. Still don't want us to tank though, we aren't the **** 76'ers. I don't want to see the Heat put bad product on the court willingly.

Are people actually thinking that we are a lock for a top 3 pick or even top 10 for that matter. There are a dozen teams pining for that top 10 slot. To think that we'd sniff top 3 is optimistic. Too optimistic. Outside of towns and okafor who else would we get? The skinny European?
