I think he would be smart to take that.

Went from a bad call away from the SB trophy to no coach and no QB.

FML.

Nothing worse than almost getting there. :noway:

I'm not surprised by this, I was hoping that if we did lose him then we could get picks for it.

Kawkami has reported all along Harbs felt coaching salaries were gonna explode. $8M per has been his starting point for his next contract. I don't consider it a given he goes back to college.

@JasonLaCanfora: Little doubt Mark Davis could beat any Michigan offer to Harbaugh. I heard he had double this out there for Gruden, who walked. Stay tuned

Still don't think he takes this.

He could easily get this in the NFL.

The leak and its origin suggest that Harbaugh’s agent hopes to use the offer as leverage in talks with interested NFL teams.

-------------

The possibility that Harbaugh will leave for Michigan also pressures Jed York and company to be very reasonable in any trade talks regarding Harbaugh. If he chooses to go back to college, the 49ers get nothing.

Then again, the 49ers may prefer that outcome, since they wouldn’t have to worry about Harbaugh finishing with another franchise that which he started in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, some have suggested that Harbaugh wouldn’t use his alma mater as leverage for a better NFL job. Why shouldn’t he? Harbaugh played football there at a high level. In return he got jack squat, without the free snacks.

Yeah but the 9ers could play hardball and make Jim sit next year. So the 9ers still have leverage against Jim for next season at least. The team that gets him will have to pay for him to coach next season. Even Michigan could have to wait for the 9ers to let him go.

I know it is common practice among players' camps/agents (and when the mood strikes, teams do it too) to leak this kind of information when attempting to create a bidding war, but this situation and the way Harbaugh is handling it seems so completely scummy.

Can't prove Harbaugh is behind the leak, but if he is, this behavior is completely contradictory to the type of self image he puts out there. Friggin Stanford tool.

Huh, I guess they agree with the Niners management that he is not much of a coach.

Losing Harbaugh will be an epic mismanagement if it comes to that.

I don't see Harbaugh going back to college. He came a few plays within beating his own brother for the SB. Going back to college now is gonna look like a concession. His competitive fire would not let him.

Leverage move, nothing more. Harbaugh is gonna be "interested" in almost all coming offers over the next couple of months.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: As I said on @FoxSports1 today, I was told by sources the reports on the $8M per offer by #Michigan to Jim Harbaugh are not accurate.

Harbaugh to the Raiders makes sense in that he doesn't have to uproot his family (who's now lived in the Bay Area for several years). Maybe the Raiders would let him choose his GM as well. The Raiders could trade their potential top 3 pick (if Harbaugh likes Carr) and pickup additional draft picks to help rebuild the team and put the new GM and Harbaugh's fingerprints on the team quickly.

Return to San Francisco 49ers
