Sure Rondo will look like a superstar on the right team - but some of us know the truth - he is not and never was. Of course his friends will have his back - that's cool. But the question is whether Danny thought he was a superstar and hence 'miscalculated' - the answer is looking like 'no.'
One poster compared him to Dennis Rodman. I think wages of win has Rodman ahead of Jordan (hahaha) but that's a decent comparison. Rodman on a **** team isn't going to do anything. He was a flawed player. But Rodman on the right team is going to hit 'superstar' on some metrics.
Danny can't win on any Rondo trade - that's likely why he has been putting it off. He excels at riding coattails. Soon as he gets in a good situation - the accolades will come again. But the fans here should know better..

Its a matter of semantics. Can Rondo be THE GUY type of superstar and the answer today is no…. maybe always was no. You would be better off with guys like Antoine Walker or Al Jefferson or a number of other guys that shine as high usage players. But if you already have a bunch of high usage players but aren't good enough to win it all….. a guy like Rondo who can bring the ball up against pressure, make dazzling assists, find the open guy, feed the pig, rebound like a PF etc… can be a superstar for your team. Antoine Walker and Al Jefferson types simply add nothing to a team that already is full of guys that need the rock like Dallas.
Dallas actually has 3 pretty good PGs in Harris, Nelson and Felton but none of them excel without taking a shot. Dallas is much better off with Dirk, Ellis and Parsons shooting than any of their PGs. They also have a C in Chandler who is a stiff offensively but the one thing he does at an elite level is finish at the rim when PG can penetrate and dish.
You add Rondo to Dallas and he upgrades two positions - PG and C - dramatically and helps 3 great shooters get easy shots.
That is a huge impact. Like him or not Guy you have to see how chemistry can make a big difference. And Dallas has nowhere near the talent of the Big 3 in Boston - maybe not even as much as Tony Parker gets to play with in San Antonio. But I guarantee if this trade goes down, Rondo will be an all star and Boston will look like they got swindled.
And if he is going to leave anyway, we should probably make the trade.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Re: Why Rondo is likely to be traded
He has obviously shown he can be the best player on the floor in big meaningful playoff series. But for whatever reason over the last three seasons (knee injury included) he has consistently shown he is either unwilling or unable to be that player night in night out to lead a team to success through his play and leadership.
For that reason I have no problems seeing him moved on. If it means taking on garbage players with salary beyond this season just to get another late first round pick I would rather they just let him walk.

Rondo must really want to be traded too. I mean, right now on this team he looks mediocre. If he goes to Dallas and returns to form and claims he was still recovering from hand injury, knee etc. - he is a lot better off in free agency than he will be if he continues to look like he does right now in Boston.

I always liked Rondo. I never like the posters that tried so hard to paint him as 'the man' and now predictably feel disappointed that he is not. Like I said - Rondo does not need help. Rondo needs to BE the help. And in Dallas he will be. It's a good fit for him. Danny will have to suck it up and take some heat for moving him. But its the right thing to do..
Tony Parker's comment might have been a little harsh - but it gets at the kind of player Rondo is.. Dallas is already a very good team. They already have stars. Rondo can ride the coat tails again and look like a superstar. A well rounded player like Parker OTOH is going to look good on any team. Because he has a more typical skillset that allows him to do good things on the court with whoever he is paired with.
