It's a bit OT, but I disagree. Had Cleveland not inexplicably won the lottery again, I think there is a reasonable chance we could have gotten Love.

From my perspective most of this board did not want Rondo traded in the summer of 2013 for what Ainge could have gotten when I argued like a MADMAN to trade him then since I was afraid of his trade value dropping like a stone.

I was trying to do my small part to get "die hard" fans or someone in Celtics management that may read these boards for fun to realize it made sense trading him entering into a rebuild. I obviously FAILED and this is the result.

This all being said, I think Ainge for "non basketball reasons" was probably asking too much for Rondo back then. Hard to trade a "fan favorite" with a couple of years left on his contract that the average fan thought was a major all star/big difference maker.

I wish Rondo the best with Dallas. Clearly the best fit for him of the teams that were interested.

On a side note, I'm glad Rondo gets to play for a contender again and I can't **** wait to watch him in the Playoffs. He's seriously one of my favorite players ever and I'll never forget some of his Playoff performances over the years. I guess I now have a team to root for in April/May/June while the Celtics are absent from the Playoffs for the next 5 years.

Agreed. I have posted similar thoughts in the past that Danny never seems to send players to NBA purgatory like the Knicks, maybe that is just coincidence but it can't hurt either.

I'd rather have a Top 3 pick ANYDAY of the week instead of a #8 pick and two more 1st rd picks in the 20's. If the NBA draft was the NFL, then the 1st rd would be picks 1-5, 2nd rd 6-12, 3rd rd 13-20 and 4th rd every pick 21 and beyond. I mean, seriously, why are people acting like we are in such great shape because we have a MILLION 1st rd picks? When any of them become Top 3 overall picks let me know. :nonono:

I do think we see something in Wright. Don't know much of him actually.. Btw, what did you expect to get from someone who's contract's expiring? I'm glad he's with a contender now, and we got something, yeah, something... I hope and think Wright will work out fine here (from what I've read on the Dallas forums they really like him).

The return wasn't great, but I'm sure we'll find out over the next few days when other deals get their details leaked out that it was probably on par with all the others, despite some of the speculative deals forum posters came up with.

Best of luck to Rondo and the Mavs. I hope they do really well

I tend to agree with this. I was wishing for a 2017 pick from Dallas, but I guess the market for Rondo was even more tepid than I had expected. I'm glad, too, that he's headed to Dallas - I really like that team. Rondo will be a monster with all those scorers around him.

Yeah, that's the thing to keep in mind-- Danny put up the FOR SALE sign over Rondo this week. Everyone told him their best offers. Given Rondo's ability to leave at the end of the season regardless of whether he stayed here or went to another team, and given his scoring woes and FT-shooting woes, and defensive woes, this was the best choice out of a lot of "meh" choices given to Danny. You can only get what a player is worth to everyone else. It doesn't matter whether Danny had a hard-on for Rondo personally and thought he farts rainbows. The only crappy part is that his value was at least slightly higher before he tore his ACL, and it's a shame we didn't just pull the trigger back then, since trading him was the likely outcome of his career in green. Trading for Love and all the other ideas were pipe dreams and we know it.

Trading for Love was not a pipe dream at all. Had Cleveland not jumped into the top 3, I'm almost 80% sure Love would be a Celtic. The lottery drawing is for four balls. If you knew the combos, we were actually only one ball off of getting the #1 pick. If one ball had bounced our way when it was incredibly likely to bounce our way, I would have been 100% sure Love would be a Celtic.

We're in the age of PGs, almost every team has a good one.

The best part about this trade will be the extra losses we accrue giving us a higher chance to win the lottery.

We started rebuilding last year, and we're not going to stop for at least a few more years.

The worst thing that could of come from the Rondo situation was reuping him for 5 more years at a near max contract as he continues to regress and kill this franchise.

Let the new era begin.

Soon to be free agent Jrue Holiday got a lottery pick ... Rondo couldn't even get a top 20 pick

1/2 season rental and damaged goods is not going to get much. Danny was screwed the day Rondo blew his ACL. He needed Rondo to have best season of his career and after first game where Rondo showed his stuff he kind of mailed it in. This is par for course for NBA stars that want out but don't want receiving team to give up too much. Rondo needed to get out to improve his chances of getting a pay day. Chances of him leaving for LA and getting near max deal have just gone up dramatically. And LA gets to keep its two lottery picks.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I love Ainge but this is the worst trade of his career. Can't wait to hear the spin and behind the scenes reporting.. Rondo picked his destination.

This could be a sign they love Okafor- Ainge isn't above a tank year.

Still wish we had Mclemore.

How much of this was a basketball decision from Stevens and Ainge's viewpoint do you think. I think Rondo's play since the injury and deficiencies must have been a pretty big factor in building the sort of team they are after.

Hopefully out of respect to that position it will be left vacant for awhile.

Pierce obviously was worthy. So was Rondo. Currently there is no one worthy.

Got Rondo for late 1st. Traded him for late 1st. Sounds about right (hell no :( ).

But this is better than keeping him, getting pick #10 and him leaving next summer. At least the way is now clear-cut.

Perfect situation and fit for Rondo. Mavs should put up a good fight.
