It's funny how people are haranguing Ainge. Do you people think he WANTS to do this?

He rode out the build-around-Rondo train almost all the way into 2015. He worked his tail off to keep the team deep with productive players in the event of landing a high pick and thus Love. He could have bottomed out in 2013. He kept rondo around, Bass around, Green, Sully...

Ainge tried to give himself a chance for a quick turnaround. Ping pong balls didn't fall our way, Rondo didn't prove worthy of the max. I'm sure Ainge was hopping for a different outcome in both.

I wish RR the best, and I hope we get to see playoff Rondo light up someone this spring.

We're in the age of PGs, almost every team has a good one.

The best part about this trade will be the extra losses we accrue giving us a higher chance to win the lottery.

We started rebuilding last year, and we're not going to stop for at least a few more years.

The worst thing that could of come from the Rondo situation was reuping him for 5 more years at a near max contract as he continues to regress and kill this franchise.

Let the new era begin.

Soon to be free agent Jrue Holiday got a lottery pick ... Rondo couldn't even get a top 20 pick

Jrue at the time was a 22 year old point guard coming off his first all star game and averaged 18/8 for the season. Pretty big difference

I can't wait until Rondo RIPS IT UP in the playoffs again(like he always does) and see all the Rondo haters continuing to make excuses as to why he isn't that good lol. Please. I'm actually okay with trading him because we had no choice.............however, I fully blame Ainge for not being able to get any other STUDS to pair up with Rondo. That's why we had to trade him.............the rest of the roster sucks ass and there's no point in paying him to stick around. Ainge doesn't have a plan........I am convinced now more than ever. He is winging it year to year.

I said once Smart was drafted Rondo was done here. I don't love this trade but the fact is I don't think Rondo will be as missed as people think. Great passer and rebounder but the celtics did get some bigs in return. Plus Rondos lack of offense was hurting this team. With the mavs that won't matter much.

He needed Rondo to have best season of his career and after first game where Rondo showed his stuff he kind of mailed it in. This is par for course for NBA stars that want out but don't want receiving team to give up too much. Rondo needed to get out to improve his chances of getting a pay day. Chances of him leaving for LA and getting near max deal have just gone up dramatically. And LA gets to keep its two lottery picks.

No chance Rondo leaves the Mavs to play in LA. Constant LA and NY hype needs to die. Not everything revolves around them.

I still don't get why the Lakers would trade for Rondo. He would be gone ASAP because he would be wasting his time in LA. They won't be competing until 2016 or later.

And I'm glad he went to a contender. If Dallas/Rondo keeps wrecking havoc in the Western Conference it means certain teams will crack, realize they can't contend and blow up and players such as Dragic, Cousins (pray to god), ... become avalaible. And who knows.

I'm going to miss Rondo but I don't see any future him for him. I don't want him to waste time since he's already 28 going 29. Even if Ainge retooled, it would have taken at least 2 more years to get a decent squad and he would have to give up too much.

Rondo's been a disappointment Post Big 3. Let's call a spade a spade. Last year, we can chalk up his play to knee injury. I buy that.

This year? His shooting is embarrassing, and he doesn't listen to Brad Stevens. Guy is a supreme passer, but I don't think he plays hard and really embraced his teammates.

What did Celtics need from Rondo?

Post Big 13 -- 16 ppg, 10-11 assists and great defense on decent shooting. They go 8 ppg, ridiculous, inconsistency and he couldn't play late in the game because he couldn't hit a free throw.

This is absurd, Ainge would have been constantly trying to make moves to improve the roster. He was just smart enough not to make a sh.it move just for the sake of making one.

**** terrible. Absolutely terrible. This trade doesn't not reflect well on Ainge. If he was going to wait this long to trade him, he might as well have kept him and tried to build with him. This is Ainge's worst trade by far. This is absolutely terrible. So much worse than the Walker trade. Everyone has to hold him in lower regard after this debacle. Even if you think he is one of the best GMs in the league. This move is totally untenable. Ainge mismanaged this situation and the team is going to suck for years now. We will be lucky to make the playoff before Steven's contract is up.

As Bulpett or somebody pointed out, the Celtics have a maxed out roster, so they won't literally send out one player and get three players in return.

No sure way of telling what the thought was?

I'm sure they will have only good things to say about Rajon......

But its the end of an era for this team.....We need to move on.....

lastly, my biggest problem with Rondo has been the --- have you seen him on national TV/Playoff/headband rondo.

The guy was great in the spotlight. But, he was far below that in regular games. People think he raised his level in the playoffs. I think he lowered his level in the non-glamour games. Way too many games where I don't think he had effort. There also hasn't been a single coach in his life that liked coaching him,

Yes!

I like the trade. Good job Danny!

This clears up minutes for Smart. Gives us another quality big. Wright has talent. He can shoot and block shots.
Also this gives us another 2015 1st round pick. A decent back up PG in Nelson. I liked Crowder in college but haven't followed him in the NBA too much.

One of Crowder or Nelson May be released unless we decide to release Fav or Pressey because we have 16 players now.

Rondo would have walked for nothing. Good job Danny!

I'm so bummed. I know Rondo had to go but I hate the package we got and I hate we are now a classic treadmill team. Ugh

This year?

He's uninterested, not motivated (enough), doesn't care since there is nowhere to go because they aren't winning anything soon.

It's the best for everyone. I truly hope Rondo succeeds in Dallas and starts beasting again with guys such as Dirk on the court. That's what motivates him to really try.

No? How am I wrong? Rondo will be a force in the playoffs especially with THAT team. Great shooters plus a defensive force in Chandler. And, Ainge? Yes, that's correct, he simply wings it year to effin year. He has no concrete plan. He wants to tank now but yet he resigned Bradley's atrocious ass in the offseason. For what? The kid stinks. He doesn't know what he is doing.

This trade helps both teams.

It also helps Rondo and the Celtics.
Rondo is a better fit when surrounded by all star type players.
