And Rondo f*cked us on this by refusing Sacramento. He got the perfect situation in Dallas.

Steve Nash and young Jason Kidd were pretty darn entertaining too.

Look I'm the one who brought it up as a possibility, but considering he hasn't played one game yet and could still potentially walk this summer, I think we can leave the maybe.....

But yes I think he is going to thrive. I think Dirk and Tyson in particular are going to love the guy.

From Espn.
• How it works: Each team can present the deal differently to the league in order to maximize trade exceptions generated. Boston essentially lines up the deal by trading Rondo for no return, which generates a $12.9 million exception (his entire 2014-15 salary). Boston absorbs Wright's $5 million salary using Kris Humphries trade exception ($5.3 million), Nelson's $2.7 million via Joel Anthony trade exception ($3.8 million), and Crowder via the rest of the Anthony exception (or minimum salary exception).

Quick question who will be cut after the deal? Pressey? Nelson? Faverani?

Celtics are trading Rondo for zero return to create the $12.9m TPE. Celtics then use the Humphries TPE to absorb Wright. Then Nelson under the Joel Anthony TPE. Then the remainder of that TPE is used to fully absorb Crowder's deal.

So yes, the Celtics are getting a huge $12.9m TPE.

Stats guys seem to be scratching their heads a bit from the Mavs angle. Their offense is performing at best of all time levels relative to the rest of the league.

Pelton from ESPN Insider gave Dallas a B- and us a B+.

The $13M TPE instantly becomes the best piece in the deal.

Quick question: I'm still confused as to why Stevens wasn't playing our starters that much. There's no reason why are starters were only playing around 30 minutes. I feel like we could've done better if the starters' minutes were higher

Can't be too mad. Rondos injury killed us. He was basically rehabbing on the court the year it would have been best to trade him. Once you get too a star players walk year, you have so little leverage. And as much as I love rondo history tells us at about 29 guys like him lose it. If you can't shoot you tend not to make it past 30. So singe did the right thing in drafting his replacement. Now I don't think rondo is playing any different productivity wise to be honest, but he did seem unwilling to be more a leader which we really needed him to do.

As far as the return goes I actually like Wright quite a bit and I don't think jae is a bad gamble, but that is counterbalanced by them not actually having a long term commitment
So we could lose them for nothing which would make the deal pretty bad. One wonders if a higher pick wouldn't have been a better investment.

This is a great point and I didn't realize it was part of the deal.

Significant trade exemptions are helpful in acquiring high salaried vet-type players; i.e., the exact kind of player we don't need right now. Maybe you use it to absorb an overpaid player so you can extract another first round pick but once again this "asset" is less than what it appears.

Fact is, what we got for Rondo (a late first and a decent big) is exactly what we got for taking on Thornton's contract. That ain't enough IMO.

This move signals complete fire sale mode and tank life. I can imagine the poor offers we were getting for Bass, Green, Thornton, et al are only going to get worse. No leverage now, just sharks in the water.

sully00 wrote:The scary part of the trade is Boston may actually be better on the floor.

Yup. The irony being we that we're too good to tank yet still 5+ years away from contending. Welcome to oblivion. Another mid-lotto pick, 2 late firsts, and irrelevance to look forward to in 2015.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

I'm just here for the memes.

Very interesting. Had no idea you could do it quite like that.

Bye. We don't want you back either.

Especially when we raise Banner 18.

Hopefully all the fake fans leave now, so we can find out who the real fans are who stand by the team through thick and thin.

Return to Boston Celtics
