If you don't think this was a worst-case (panic mode?) trade, the Celtics' website is spinning it as "Ainge adds to stockpile of draft picks."

I think this was a we-waited-as-long-as-we-could, to-get-Rondo-to-Sign-on-to-a-non-max-deal.

You guys better be as quick with posting the behind the scenes dirt between Rondo and Ainge/Stevens/ownership as you are with everything else. That is one juicy, juicy cheeseburger just waiting to be served up.

What the hell????!!!!!!!! This happened quickly, i just came back from my night shift.. also live in Europe thats why.

One of my favorite Celtics just traded for a bag of crisps and a chewed bubblegum.

Dammit i will miss this guy.. Thanks for all those great years Rondo, and especially thanks for those postseason highlights. One of the best PG's in the league, looks like i'll be cheering for the Mavs and Spurs for the next few seasons in the west. Dude will average like 15 assists per game.

I'm not happy with the package we got.. Rather had Mclemore + 1 pick from Sac instead.

Dont know what we will do with Wright. I dont think that he will outplay Sully, KO and Zeller.

I feel empty right now, it will take time to recover from this.

You're playing Wright. He's good. Zeller & him will both see time.

Nelson will back up at the point, & he can also start if injuries occur.

Crowder is a defensive specialist who you'll probably see come in when needing a stop towards the end of games.

The first round pick will give you 3 first rounders in 2015, or maybe even 4 in 2016. I like your chances there.

Great trade for a player who doesn't deserve your max.

The trade will keep giving to.

You have the first rounder in 2015 or 2016, & almost more importantly, you landed a 12.9 million TPE that can be used (could net you players like Lance Stephenson or Brook Lopez, as examples. Huge money exception)

It was a difficult situation. Ainge betted on getting good value for Rondo, but he got injured and didn't exactly come back to awe everyone with his play.

Ainge got scr**ed on this one. He was left with a choice of either letting him go for nothing or offer him a max. He wanted neither so he got the best he could, which wasn't much.

I woke up this morning with this weird feeling that this happened and it did. Lol

There are 2 sides to this trade, so people shouldn't blame Ainge:

1. U don't know if Rondo would've really resigned and even if he did I don't know if Danny wanted him for 100+ mils. Sadly I don't think Rajon is worth that much and this season proved it, I believe he will look for the max and get it, which is a bad situation for a team going nowhere.

2. The only knock on Ainge is that he didn't trade Rondo sooner, he would've gotten more, but I guess he was hoping Rondo would go back to his 2010 self and Ainge would be able to sign him for less than the max.
Good assessment:

Btw how long is Jameer Nelson's contract ? Sure hope it's expiring.

I believe he has a player option for next year.

Boy, Celtic fan sure nailed Rondo's value, lol... Just funnin' about.

Of course I didn't think the Celtics would get close to the value Celtic fan was demanding, but this bucket of junk and a late 1st round pick is surprisingly low.

Well this deal is sure underwhelming. I wish this move could have happened 2 or 3 years ago when he actually had some value. Rondo sure hasn't been one of my favorite players, but with that said he's sure given the fans some memorable games. I certainly wish him the best and I'm interested to see how he does with some actual players around him again.

Jameer Nelson is absolute garbage this year and he has a player option for 3.2 for next season...yippie :banghead: . I'm praying he retires.

Jae Crowder is a pretty solid defensive minded player, has a low salary with a qualifying option for next season.

Brandon Wright is a player I thought was a bust a few years back but he can play a bit. He can be a solid rotation player. Also in the last year of his contact.

I'd like to think the C's are far from done with moves. Fire sale time and see what they can get for the likes of Jeff Green, Avery Bradley, Marcus Thornton, Brandon Bass and just about anybody else.

I still don't know what to think about this trade. Definitely not a steep haul, and anybody who counts on Brandan Wright being healthy when needed is probably a sucker, which IMO negates the fact that he is underrated and in his prime. We didn't get anything we could not have lived without. But Rondo has never had the opportunity to experience NBA life outside of Boston. Maybe the experience makes him feel more comfortable resigning here next offseason, we'll have the cap room. We also get to evaluate him from an outsider perspective, now.

Would be curious to hear some insider chatter.

Let's cut it out with the Mclemore + 1st round pick talk, that **** wasn't on the table. Rondo told SAC he would never resign with them, trust me if Ainge had a better deal out there he would had done it. Teams aren't paying a premium for stuff Rondo did pre-injury, he's a guard that can't sniff 70% at the line and will never be a 3 point shooter. He's a good fit on the Mavs considering that he'll be surrounded by scorers, just not a great fit for us.

No way he's coming back, I think this deal makes it pretty clear the Celtics had no plans to sign him to a ridiculously big contract.

How did he break that hand?

Also: Jackie Mac FTW. Maybe she'll deliver some juicies.

I think this was more about Ainge waving the white flag to his Plan A of adding good players to play with Rondo. GM's were not going to give up anything for the assets he has.

Ainge & Rondo probably had a fair understanding of how this would go down.
