I agree with that pac - I'm sure this was no surprise to Rondo. I think his multi-week 2-ppg funk was the result of a behind-the-scenes 'we'll trade you soon as we can' breakup. He plays one good game against ORL to say bye-bye and boom.

Worst trade ever is right.
Wright likely tests free agency so low chance of keeping him. Jammer expires. Crowder is a 3 ppg D leaguer who likely can't make team after 3 first round picks.
In the end it is Rondo for a 2016 Dallas first and second round pick - 2 guys likely to be out of NBA by 2018.

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

At the end of the day, with the way Ainge positioned himself, it was the best he could do. This was the price of Plan A failing. His assets are just not strong enough to bring GM's to the table right now. No one is giving up premium players for prospects that have the type of limitations the Celtics younger players have.

Re: Rajon Rondo Traded To The Mavericks.
I am so bummed that I didn't meet with my Celtic source last night. What a time to skip the meet!!! My daughter is in from Denver for Christmas etc.
(From tea leaves only) That said from Ainge's comment about team, it seems Rondo and team were not clicking. There was a moment of frustration a few games back between Sully and Rondo where Sully got a rebound, saw the outlet to Rondo, decided to dribble the ball up, got to the top of the key and put up a brick or lost it out of bounds. Shortly thereafter Sully went into a shooting slump.
The chemistry broke down, which is to say it was fragile all along.
Those that are upset are assuming the three star championship model. Rondo was the number one star, We needed two more. This is the model most every team uses. And it wasn't happening and wasn't going to happen, because Rondo is really no longer a star.
DA is using the dynasty model of old. He is trying to build a team of 8 to 10 NBA starters that can run the opponents into the ground. This is why he is stock piling picks. He believes he can draft NBA starters anywhere in the first round. DA can do this when he and the organization are focused on the draft.
(After DA drafted Rondo at 21 he made a candid comment that I believe is often true. "Our draft board looks nothing like any one else's draft board." He intimated that Rondo was number 3 on our board.)
I'm pretty close to neutral on the trade. Rondo is really not that good any more. We got what he is worth and it is a win win for both teams.
I am absolutely thrilled to see the Celtics committing to the dynasty plan.

Re: Rajon Rondo Traded To The Mavericks.
Garbage deal for the Celtics. No other way to spin it.
Ainge is an opportunist. He was probably hoping teams would be more desperate at this point in time. Realistic trade partners like the Knicks and Lakers are better off just bottoming out. No point for them to make a playoff push. I don't know how much truth there was to the Kings rumor, but if they were in a better position and McLemore didn't start to turn a corner, maybe they'd take a chance on Rondo without the guarantee he'd resign there.

Re: Rajon Rondo Traded To The Mavericks.
Disappointed with the return we got. I would have preferred to hold out in hopes of a better offer. The only reason to trade Rondo now is if we are tanking hard for the rest of the year and didn't want to risk any more wins. If that's the case I expect Green and others to be traded soon. If not I have to seriously question why Ainge didn't hold out for a better return. At the very least get more protection on the pick.
Happy Rondo is on a good team and will miss the little guy.

Re: Rajon Rondo Traded To The Mavericks.
I've got to think there was a gargantuan chasm between what Rondo was looking for on a contract and what Ainge was willing to pay, and that he decided to move on now rather that try and pick up sign and trade fodder in the summer.
I'm not so sure that the team results are going to slide much if at all, and maybe that is the true measure of a trade rather than trying to compare the relative values of apples and oranges. Maybe we've just had too high of expectations for the return. Looking forward to watching the new guys.

Re: Rajon Rondo Traded To The Mavericks.
Rondo trade changed Vegas odds of Dallas winning title from 16-1 to 8-1. When money is on the line, people other than "the few fan boys on realgm" like myself believe in his talent.
It is sad that Danny got more for taking on Thornton contract (Zeller for 2 years and #1 pick) than he did for Rondo. In fact, Thornton may be more of a get than Wright expiring and Dallas pick.
However, the last word on deal may be at trade deadline when Wright can be traded again.

Re: Rajon Rondo Traded To The Mavericks.
Ainge f-ed this one up, straight up.
It's hard to imagine he couldn't have gotten more at some point. Rondo's value was higher this past offseason, I would think. Ainge stuck too long with his guy. He misjudged this one badly, and now we had to trade our best asset for a poo-poo platter.

LOL, bro, when we don't win another title the next 5 years(and I'll bet my wife's muff we won't!), then he'll have won 1 title in 18 years as a GM. Whoohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a great GM! Cmon, man...........that's the same amount of titles as Joe Dumars as a GM. Is he great too? Give me a break.........
That's selective reasoning at best.
18 years with 1 title to you, where before hand it was 22 or 23 years before we raised that banner if you forget. Years that he had to fix due to other GM's incompetence. People forget or they dont know what bad GM's look like so they are so quick to call Danny some horrible GM. Do I thnk he is the best? No, but hes better than the average bear, and just becuse youre tired of his shinanigans doesnt mean someone elses shinanigans will be better.

BUT ITS AN ASSET!!! Everyone wants the 25th pick in the draft!!! THAT'S WHERE YOU WANT TO BE!!!!! Morons.
Traded a GREAT player who had ZERO talent around him for a 7 footer that can change his underwear and late first rounder....TERRIBLE...just horrible.
Ainge's dismissal or retirement cant come soon enough...

He traded our best asset for crap. There is no forest. Seriously who's our best player? Green? We can't trade him either.....our 2015 pick? We STILL aren't the worst team.....no forest my friend....just a big field of S--t.
I can see a bunch of young guys, a PG in Smart who has the ability to be a stud. I refuse to drag my face across the tar just because one of my favorite players got traded. I didn't cry like a bitch when they traed KG, I saw the good that came out of it. I think people will be surprised at how much better this team will be without Rondo here going forward, that's all. Hate all you want, that's on you.

Dude..you are kidding yourself....is signing BRADLY a commitment to a dynasty plan? Your trading Rondo because he's not "clickin" with Fat Sully???
Is trading a player that will make Dallas RELEVANT for for the next 3 years for NOTHING a plan? Who care's if Rondo is in slump. He's one of the best point guards and one of the BEST. You build around good players not trade them away for nothing! This is why Dallas is winner and we are losers.
There is NO silver lining here, Danny blew it and even worse....he's literally lost his mind.

Re: Rajon Rondo Traded To The Mavericks.
I'll go on record as being supportive of the deal. It's unfortunate that Rondo could not have come out of the gates stronger and who knows what that would have done to his market value. But, in essence, I'm not sure you can't say that Ainge got less for Rondo than he did for Pierce/Garnett. The biggest prizes of that deal were the 3 picks and the TPE which transformed into the Thornton deal. But that also came at the expense of Wallace's contract.
This deal, Ainge can come away with a clean contract slot with Wright and Nelson expiring, a first, and a $12.9 TPE, also without having to carry a whiner like Bogans for a season to get it. I wanted 2 first round picks for Rondo ultimately through sign and trade in the offseason. That's what I thought his value would be at this stage given age and pending free agency. Getting this done now allows Ainge to repackage one or more of these players for something else this season or next (Wright S&T), plus another chance to pull a Thornton like deal with the TPE created.
Rondo was my favorite player on the team and I'm bummed he couldn't have a longer tenure on the team. But I've held the belief that given his age, likely next contract terms, and the expected time it would take to find impact players around him would leave too small a window for ultimate success (championship) and prolonged high level success, to make re-signing him a wise decision. His inability to shoulder a larger scoring burden early this season cemented these feelings for me.
