Same reason many fans rationalize terrible moves by their teams. Remember the Turkoglu signing?

But prior to becoming a Raptor, he was regarded as a good player.

He was regarded as a decent player, but certainly not worth that absurd contract that Colangelo handed him.

I could care less about that. Where they may have went wrong is with this. Tried to make something that appealed to the mainstream so it could make money.

If the objective is money, fine, but that doesn't mean you have to copy another team because they made money. BKN was first to market with that color scheme and design, what makes MLSE think that being 2nd will do as well? I'm really not liking this so far, but as others have said, we need to see the full logo before passing judgement. Huge mistake to release this version of it though.

It was going to be a shock no matter what they did because we are all so used to what we've had. But at least this is wearable. At least you won't feel like some leather sandals and socks beer helmet NFL jock goofball wearing gear like this. You know the obnoxious-jock driven gear I'm talking about here.

The simplicity makes it closer to a clothing design logo than what most people think of when thinking of sports logos. The Nets look is one of the most popular in all sports. People wear it worldwide. There's no maple leafs on this. There's no cartoons. It's just a font, a circle and a basketball with some claw marks and a splash of colour.

I'll take wearable, simple and classic but derivative over wholly unique, goofy, obnoxious, ugly and unwearable, personally.

You're comparing it to some of the worst logos of all-time though...

The responses have been very mixed everywhere. Lots of positive, lots of negative, lots of meh.

Curious whether there's anything to the use of the word "shield" -- whether that makes it some kind of alternate or not?

Who is "we"?

People who followed the Raptors from their inception? Sure....for them the original uniforms will always have a certain nostalgia. But aesthetically, they are objectively awful.

Of course, I have followed the Raptors since their inception and I hate those jerseys. To me, they remind me what an embarrassment of a franchise we have been for most of our existence.

I didn't like this new logo either, but let's wait for the full uniform release before we bring out the pitchforks guys. Who knows, this logo might match really well with the new uniform...

Got me there, funny how it always goes back to Colangelo's poor money management skills. :nonono:

The BKN design did so well because of 3 things. 1) The BKN design at the time looked like a new fresh scheme. No one in the NBA really had anything like it. 2) JAYz was was one of "coolest" rappers at the time. If he wore something all the hipsters wanted it. Drake doesn't really have that, there's more drake haters than jayz ever had. 3) Brooklyn was one of those "cool" citys you always heard rappers talk about so when all the hipsters had a chance to buy gear with "brooklyn" on it they jumped at the chance.

I agree with the fresh part. Copying what made their organization an original, cool design makes ours a shameful comedy.

Who is "our"?

Did I miss some kind of Toronto poll that unanimously voted in favor of the Barney jersey?

People are nostalgic. That is why they don't mind the jersey.

When the team had those jerseys, everyone hated them. Our players, other players, adult fans. The majority of adults thought they were an embarrassment. Kids liked them, sure.....

If we went back to those jerseys, it wouldn't take long for the nostalgia to wear out.

I hated those jerseys then & I would hate them as our main jersey now. It's probably 50/50 on this board.

It's really not... Only newer young fans like the Dino jerseys... Anybody that has been a fan of this team since day 1 loathes the Barney jerseys...
