Kings would need to free up cap space to sign Smith. I see Smith as a long shot now.

just read Woj's tweet that Kings offered Thompson and Landry For Smith over the summer. I never actually saw what Kings had offered.

If anything this decreases the chance of getting Smoove now that he can choose where he wants to go. Unless we do the unthinkable and claim him :o

Clippers and Mavs only are able to offer the minimum to Smith, obviously the Kings have a better chance being able to offer more money.

The ultimate embarrassment! How much of a cancerous tumor do you have to be for your boss to rage quit that hard?

Anyway, Houston seems to be going hard for Smith according to Woj. Thank God.

Remember early on with this, a few people said that's the only way the Kings would take him?

I don't recall a single Detroit fan willing to take that either.

Most of us knew there would be no asset needed, but I didn't realize it was Jarl Thompandry or bust. This whole situation has been comical.

Call me crazy but I'd rather pay Thompson than Smith. For me it was Landry/Williams or bust.

I'd rather pay Thompson especially considering his early buy out if needed. But I didn't realize Detroit would have probably made the swap with Thompson and Landry at the end. I thought they would be a tougher sell than that.

Looks like PDA did a good job here.

We have no cap space and no exceptions left, so the best we can offer him is the vet minimum, unless we clear some space. Houston has their BAE, and wants him.

Hilariously, signing Sessions with the BAE over the summer is what likely keeps us out of the Josh Smith sweepstakes from hell. Told you guys he was useful!

I love how Piston fans are trying to justify this move but several months ago were saying that we need more assets and young players to get Josh Smith

But then again these were the same guys that were saying Greg Monroe is better than Cousins.

I don't think money will be the driving incentive for Smith because we're talking about a few dollars (NBA money). Detroit is still on the hook for their portion.

I think this is more a sign they want to commit to Greg Monroe IMO. Kind of an expensive way of going about it, but that's what I see.

Like ICMTM said, more of an indication that three big frontline wouldn't work and Monroe should be starting. There was no chance of bringing him off the bench. Smith would still be a good fit in Sacramento. Hopefully he is receptive to coming here.

I don't care what kind of cancer Smith was in Detroit, signing him at vet minimum is a no brainer, if the option is there

If Sessions is the reason the Kings can't sign Smith, well, hahahahaha!

That said, this is a pretty shocking move. That either means the Kings told SVG to kiss their *** after he balked, or the tandem of Williams and Thompson have even less value than a waived Josh Smith? Wow.

I'm guessing the Kings pulled it, or that package has less value than Josh Smith at 12 mil a year.

SVG gambled on Smith and lost the bet. Simple as that.

It cost the Pistons to lose out JT + DWill both of which would have been the better option than outright waiving Smith.
