It's gotta be Houston for Smith right??? Maybe the Mavs...anyway Texas teams make the most sense.

As for whichever team ends up with him, i feel bad for them. The dude is just a cancer and I don't see sny scenario where he actually brings something to the table for a contender. Anyways, my gmoney is on Houston or Dallas. Both are contenders and him and Rondo/Dwight go way back.
Utterly bungled.
So, Pistons for this years Bucks award, awarded annually to the team through no planning or intentional achievement, manage to be worse than the Sixers.

If he goes unclaimed I'm sure it's Houston or Dallas.
I think the Lakers or Bucks will put a bid in on him though.

This isn't an amnesty waiver, so there is no "bid" process as far as I know. The only way to "claim" him is to absorb his entire salary (and of course you need to have the capspace or exception space to do so).
Once he clears waivers, the Lakers can still use the DPE to offer him a contract as a free agent...or is that what you meant by "bid" in the first place? In that case, ignore this post

Would Denver Nuggets bid on him? They could really use a guy with his skills.

Re: Pistons Waive Josh Smith
So how does the stretch work exactly. He's due 13.5 a year for this year and the next two seasons. What will the cap hit be by season?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I honestly see no way he ends up with the Kings. They only have the minimum to offer and I see playoff teams giving him a shot (I bet he ends up in Dallas). Why would he go to the Kings where he has PF competition when he could go to a playoff team?

Stretch makes it so his salary counts as double the years plus 1. So with 2 years remaining on his deal, his remaining salary is stretched over 5 years. Counting about 5.4 against the cap for the next 5 years.
As for claims, this isn't the amnesty provision where teams bid on him. Either you claim him off waivers and pay his full salary, or he becomes a free agent. Lakers and Milwaukee can't "bid" on him. They'd have to sign him as a free agent.

What are the rules here?
To claim him you would have to pick up the whole contract, right?

his contract is there, $26mil over the next 2 years after this. They dont get to offer him a newer, less contract.

Re: Pistons Waive Josh Smith
SVG over the last six months has basically lost Monroe and will be stuck paying Smith for five years to play for another team?

The Bucks will NOT go after him. We already have put Ersan on the block we will not sign John freaking Smith. Lakers can have him we are trying to rebuild not self destruct.

The "bid" process only applies to players waived under the amnesty provision (and that provision is only available for a couple of weeks in the offseason, no team can use it now even if they still have it available; you only get to use it once and only on players who meet certain conditions). Smith isn't being waived under that provision so there is no bid process.
You can either claim him by absorbing his entire salary (I'm pretty sure only Philly can, and nobody will), or let him clear waivers and then offer him a contract just like any other free agent using your capspace or exceptions (if you have any).

that was for the amnesty. For a plain waive, you pick up his existing contract to the end

IF you claim him off waivers you pay him all and Pistons pay him nothing. What they meant in bid is that these teams could offer him the best contract.Which Bucks will NOT let me repeat it again.
