Also to be fair, the idea was the Charlotte pick would be 15+ range, or at least that's what Dumars would have sold Gores on. And looking at the current team, even if we traded a 2016 or 2017 first rounder we're still very likely in the lottery - I can't imagine teams were asking for this years pick I mean that is going to be top five.

I guess we can't sign the Will Bynums of the world for 5 years.

It ain't Stan's money unless he's giving up $28M of the $35M he's owed to make this happen.

Never saw this coming in my wildest imaginings. Big props to both SVG and Tom Gores. As bad as Smith was on the floor, this makes clear his off the court impact on the team had to be disastrous. Wow!

I have to imagine he's much more tradeable. I mean $8M though next season for a rotation guard is a good deal when you consider we'd be taking somebody/contract back.

I LOLed at this. Hopefully now we can sign a true small forward, maybe even Gerald Green this off-season. Its a shame that we have to pay Smith's contract and can't get any use out of him, not even as a spark plug off the bench

Pistons having 5.4 million less for the next five years is a definite negative, but manageable. Smith stopping a cultural rebuild is not. And obviously, there will be continued cost of having left Dumars in as GM. Pistons just paid some karma.

Wow. I hope SVG has learned his lesson now, any non Coach GM wouldve traded Smith that expiring Kings deal. If SVG was "showcasing" Smith he did a horrible job.

And, Damn, I wonder what the Kings final offer was.

Wow! I can't believe Gores approved this. That is a big chunk of change to pay to just cut him. Way to step up.

And SVG has some huge balls. I know he's got absolute power, but this is still a bold move.

Gotta say, this comes as a bit of a shock.

I know he's been all kinds of awful, but this is out of the blue enough to make me think there's something else going on other than just his bad play.

The "UnitedHealthCare" shirt cracks me up. Will they pay for this surgical removal, this organ transplant?? :offtopic: (ha)

I actually like this outcome better. We now have an open roster spot to start bringing in some youngsters from the D League for a test drive. We might just find ourselves a gem -- it doesn't cost us a trade or a draft pick.

THANK YOU SVG!!!!

Kind of mixed emotions for me honestly. Im sad because this move might actually lead us to win some games, thus potentially removing us from getting a top 5 pick this season and getting our vintage 7th or 8th pick. On the good side... NO MORE JOSH SMITH!!!.
