I agree that the lack of a true go to scorer works against Wall and is probably part of the reason why he takes more jumpers than he should. We just have to hope that Wall/Beal develop enough to lure KD. If KD comes to town that changes everything.

I kind of hate that that is our Plan A. I look at what he has in OKC in Westbrook, Ibaka and Adams. vs. Wall, Beal, Gortat and I think it is a possibility but not a lock in any way shape or form.
I do think that Wall is going to be better than Westbrook because he is a pass first point guard. But Ibaka is that rare 3&D stretch 4 that every team wants - and now he is developing the 3 ball.

John Wall leads all Eastern Conference guards in All Star voting right now. DWade is second.

I agree that having Durant as plan A isn't ideal. However the reality is that without him our best case scenario is becoming the Hawks, a good team but not a legit contender.
Westbrook and Ibaka will be free agents the year after Durant. Unrestricted. It isn't a lock that all three will stay with a small market team. Ibaka really isn't that good anyway. He is a weak rebounding jump shooter. He cant really score inside. Westbrook is a low iq player who is looking for his own scoring 1st and 2nd.

I agree with dcingsfan. Ibaka is a really helpful player because he's a stretch 4 who can actually D up. Yeah, his rebounding is only so-so, but part of that is because he plays on the perimeter on offense, and he guards a lot of stretch fours on D. And over the next few years, he'll probably get better and better as a 3 point shooter.

Ibaka is just a standstill jump shooter. He can't do anything inside or off the dribble. His TS is 53.7% in spite of hitting 3s. And he ranks 49th among 4s in defensive rebounding rate.

Difference is by then Wall and Beal will be locked up longterm.. Westbrook/Ibaka will not.
On top of that, the Western Conference is somehow getting even more competitive. The East is too, but KD surely will understand that after toughing it out for ~10 seasons in the West, he can go to the East and walk to the Finals every year.

Ibaka is efficient and one of the game's better defenders. He's a good player.

Really good points... although not complete sure why Westbrook and Ibaka would move on?

Kevin Durant is known as fiercely loyal. Westbrook and Ibaka don't have the same rep. Like any other NBA player there's always a chance they will be drawn to the bright lights and money elsewhere, particularly Westbrook.
There was a quote from Kobe reflecting about playing with Shaq, essentially he said that even though they were winning he knew deep down that he didn't want to play second fiddle his whole career because he would never find out how good he was. Westbrook strikes me the same way. If he signs a 4yr contract with OKC in 2017, thats 13 years of his career (and his entire prime) as someone else's sidekick.
Unless multiple championships are rolling in (which is certainly possible and, obviously would derail all of this for Washington), I don't see all three of KD/Durant/Ibaka hitching their wagon to OKCs franchise and front office for the entirety of their careers.

And 2nd overall in the East in total votes (behind only LeBJ). Nice also to see 4 Wiz players in the top 25 EC vote-getters.

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread 2.0
I love having John Wall on our team!!! Of course he is not perfect, but he works hard to improve. He is a young man who likes to have fun, yet he is a professional who knows when to be serious. He is feisty, competitive & confident, yet he's usually under control and an unselfish player who makes his teammates better.
This season is fantastic to be a Wizards fan in part because I feel like we get to see Wall having his Neo moment in the Matrix where everything around him slows down and he is able to see everything more clearly in order to make the right decision: speed up or slow down, make the right pass or shoot it. Manage the game.
Thanks John!!!!

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread 2.0
Definitely agree that John's hard work, especially during the offseason, is the chief reason that he's now approaching superstar status. But I also believe that three things that happened before and during the 2013-14 season are also major factors. 1. The Zards decision to sign Wall to a max contract instead of waiting a year, which would have messed with his head. 2. Wall's making the all-star team. 3. The Zards making and advancing in the playoffs, thanks in large part to the fact that the Zards surrounded Wall and Beal with experienced, proven talent like Gortat, Ariza and Nene.

John Wall on Cusp of Entering NBA MVP Conversation
Behind 24 points, 11 assists and six rebounds from their All-Star floor general, the Wizards picked up their 20th win of the season with a 102-91 victory over the New York Knicks to kick off the NBA's five-game Christmas slate. It was Wall's 17th points-assists double-double of the season and ninth outing with at least 20 points and 10 dimes, both of which are tops in the league.
Wall tied center Marcin Gortat for the team lead with a plus-11 point differential, which basically equates to business as usual for the former. During Wall's 1,011 minutes this season, the Wizards have outscored their opponents by 8.5 points per 100 possessions. That net efficiency rating is higher than the ones put up by 29 of the 30 teams in this league.
On the season, Wall has held opposing point guards to a 15.8 player efficiency rating, per 82games.com. Just two years prior, point guards had enjoyed a 19.3 PER against him.
As a scorer, he has found efficiency where few others have: in that dreaded zone known as the mid-range. Prior to this season, he had never converted more than 38.6 percent of his shots from eight to 16 feet away from the basket. This year, he is knocking down 50.8 percent of those looks, a conversion rate that ranks sixth among the 53 shooters with at least 50 such attempts.
Lightning-quick off the dribble, Wall is also one of the league's best finishers on drives to the basket. He is shooting 53.0 percent on his dribble drives, which slots him ahead of the likes of Monta Ellis (50.3), James Harden (48.8) and four-time MVP LeBron James (47.5).
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Wall won't miss any game action but ends up lighter in the wallet. Washington's leading scorer has been fined $15,000 for "pushing Acy and escalating the incident," NBA President of Basketball Operations announced on Friday.
Acy's reported salary is $915,243 this season. Based on the collective bargaining agreement, his fine will run $8,320.39.
Well that was fair

did anyone catch the start of inside the nba on christmas. As soon as the show came on they Ernie asked the panel what has stood out for them so far and Barkley was the 1st to answer and he said "John Wall". He said that he's always said CP3 was the best pg in the league and Curry is the best this year but he said right now Wall is coming and he also started bragging about the Wiz again that we are going to have to be dealt with in the playoffs this year
