LOL, Houston hates midrange shots- its either at the rim or a 3 pointer so this should be interesting. Im at my parents house for Christmas so I will have the Houston game on TV tonight and the Detroit game on the PC.

According to Mchale, anybody who shoots 75% in practice from 3 point line are allowed to take them in game. Though i think its mostly bull. No way Motiejunas, Tjones or Papanikalou hit 75% of their 3point shot in practice.

Smith is going through his "trial".

Rockets beat the Grizzlies on the road -- impressive.

Smith 21 points on 21 shots. Got the job done, though.

From what rockets fans are saying on multiple sites josh played like atlanta josh. Which means they were really really Impressed by his play. I knew he was holding back when he was here. And for that I say **** you. You piece of ****. Unbelievable, athletes these days. He obviously signed here for the money and never wanted to play his A game for whatever reasons. Taking his **** uncalled for jumpers. Now hes on a playoff team and he brings the j smoove we all know he can be. Thanks man your cool.

Its 1 game and hes always had talent. But he also hasn't learned a Damn thing and just put up 20 FGAs lol. Hes going to go right back too his old ways in no time if thats what Mchale is going to let him too. He even airballed a 3 late in the game. Good for him and good for the Rockets if it works out but im happier than a pig in **** hes gone.

He chucked the same number of shots as Harden and Howard together.

It's really annoying how some Rockets fans are claiming that Smith has been "revived" already. The dude just lead his team in usage with a TS% of .470. When he did that on the Pistons, he was chided for it.

I even heard people say "he's already down his 3 point shooting". Um.. he's only been averaging 1.3 3pt shots a game this season with the Pistons.

I'm glad to hear it. I hope he tears it up for the Rockets as the third banana and someone gives him a $10 million contract. I believe that helps our cap space. Something like 50% of his next signed contract counts off our cap space. So, if he signed for $5 for next season, $2.5 million is added to our cap (against what we're getting hit from his waiving).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

From what I've heard we would subtract half the amount he signs for that's over the value of a minimum contract from what we owe him per year. So if the min is somewhere around 1.3mil (which I think it is but I could be wrong) and he signs for X mil a year then we owe (X - 1.3)/2 less for the duration of that contract.

So, as much as we might all hate him and wish him Brandon Knight level misfortune on the basketball court, it's in our best interest as a team that he kicks ass in Houston :nonono:

Thanks for the clarification. So, if he signs somewhere at $7 million per season, It would be (7-1.3)/2= 2.85 more cap space. Not bad, when we're only on the hook at $5.4 million. It would almost negate his cap impact, especially as the cap is expected to soar after the new TV deal.

Meh, I don't care what Josh Smith does elsewhere. I know that we're a better team simply by removing him.

It's undeniable. Josh Smith is one of the biggest difference makers in the NBA.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Rockets fans will understand soon enough.

Proves that you can't rely on talent alone like Smith has all these years. No skill, only genetically gifted.

10 turnovers and 12/34 from the field in his first three games with the Rockets

Currently stinking it up shooting 35% and a PER of 5.2 leading the Rockets to a 1-2 record. Well done Josh.

In these two games without Smith, Drummond has averaged 18.0 points per game (.708 FG%), 11.5 rebounds per game, 2 steals per game and 3 blocks per game.

Jonas Jerebko has also put up 10/6.5/2.5 (.467/.500/.750) off the bench over these two games as well. He's clearly much more suited to the stretch 4 role than Smith ever was.

Also notable in these two games has been Brandon Jennings - 29.6 mpg, 19.5 ppg (.553/.500/.---), 4.5 rpg, 8.0 apg, 1.5 spg, 2.0 tpg. Coincidence?

Only thing worse than Josh Smith is those who were foolishly willing to stand and die on the Josh Smith hill and defend him.

Honestly, I mean this kindly, but this post exemplifies a pejorative statement. Is it so bad that people would hope that Josh Smith would figure it out at some point? Few deny that his history is a player of remarkable physical talent. "If only" is a phrase heard throughout his career. Is this just a "I'm right and you're wrong" crowing? Why phrase it in a way seeming intended to insult?

No doubt, Smith detractors must be feeling pretty justified at the moment. For two games worth at least, all signs (including the use of the stretch waiver) are that he was a very toxic presence on the team. Still, be kind, it costs nothing and makes life easier for everyone. Anyone who claims to never been on the wrong side of an issue is either very young and very smart, or just a liar.
