Rangers getting interested callers (Article)

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Sat Jun 16, 2007 2:03 am

Botts is on a Triple-A tear, but there's no spot for him as the DH

Kick Sammy to the side, not going to happen!

Botts update: Levine said the Rangers want to give Jason Botts a "meaningful opportunity" at the big leagues but said the club doesn't have those at-bats available yet.

Thanks to a 14-game hitting streak, Botts began Thursday hitting .322 for Triple-A Oklahoma. Since May 1, he was hitting .399 and had raised his on-base percentage to .430 for the season, which ranked third in the Pacific Coast League.

With Sammy Sosa on the roster, however, the Rangers don't have a need yet for another DH, which is how the Rangers view Botts.

Though Levine declined to speak about specific teams or players, he didn't deny the Rangers were in a seller's mode.

"Yes, there have been some calls," he said. "You always have to be willing to listen."

According to the collective bargaining agreement, because Gagne signed a major league free-agent contract this winter, he's not eligible to be traded until today. Gagne has the power to veto a trade to 12 teams.

We need to make room for Botts on the MLB roster. He has nothing more to prove in AAA and if that means moving another outfielder and making Sammy play more often in the outfield then so be it. I dunno how they would do it but they need to get him in Texas somehow. He doesn't belong in Oklahoma anymore.
