All Time National Teams

Post#1 » by J-Mezzy » Thu Dec 18, 2014 1:56 am

I was thinking about what my all time national team would be and was wondering what are some other great all time national teams would be; especially from non powerhouses since Brazil, Italy, Germany, ad Argentina would obviously have the bests.

Mine is (all players in their prime)

----------------------Cordoba------------------------

Zuniga--------Cordoba------Yepes----------Armero

------------Serna---------------Rincon---------------

----------Valderrama------------James---------------

-------------Asprilla------------Falcao---------------

Bench:
Cuadrado
Leonel Alvarez
Mondragon'
Ospina
Andres Escobar
Adolfo Valencia
Arias
Chonto Herrera
Juan Pablo Angel
Carlos Bacca
Quintero
willington Ortiz
Iguaran

Great attacking options and great defense and very good keepers. Not a lot of depth in the full backs or Dm though. Solid team IMO. Could also use the 4-2-3-1 and swap Asprilla for Cuadrado and play him on the wing as well as James

Let's see how it stacks against yours (probably not good if yours is a superpower)

------------------------- Vitor Baia -------------------------
------------------- Pepe ------- Carvalho ------------------
--- Bosingwa -------------------------------- Coentrao ---
-------------- Mario Coluna ----- Rui Costa --------------
---------------------------- Deco ----------------------------
---------- Figo ------------------------------- Cris ----------
--------------------------- Eusebio --------------------------

A standard 4231 for our great coach, the only one
Baia one of the most under appreciated players in terms of caps he got vs how many he should've. 2002-3 era Carvalho and 2013-14 Pepe would be a wall at the back, while Bosingwa and Coentrao would be quick down the flanks. Rui Costa would be a bit more adventurous while Coluna would provide stability and more creativity in midfield. Deco and Rui Costa would take turns filling in the 10 role and taking up defensive duties. Ronaldo and Figo would wreak havoc down the wings, and on the off chance they didn't feel like scoring they could always cross it to Eusebio or link up on a devastatingly quick counter.

Many of Mourinho's lads would be in the bench:

Tiago Mendes of Atleti and formerly Chelsea
Simao, the little spark plug off the bench
Alves, our giant in defense
Maniche, formerly of Atletico
And a bunch of goal scorers such as
Peyroteo, who managed the highest goals per game ratio ever (something like 1.68 per game from more than 160 games), Nuno Gomes, Pauleta, Nene, and Futre

Honestly, it's a shame how close we could have been to seeing this team. If Ronaldo were just 4-5 years older, we'd have likely seen a line up with him in his prime, prime Figo, Deco, and Nuno Gomes or Pauleta up top in front of guys like Maniche/Rui Costa, while Carvalho was still a world class defender. What could have been :(

Yup. Really sucks how some generations don't quite meet. For us, our 2000 team was full of great defenders, but no attack. This generation is the opposite. I can only imagine how good Colombia could have been in the WC with a prime Yepes and Ivan Ramiro Cordoba

Not good with history but the Dutch:

Van Der Saar
?-De Boer-?-Van Brockhorst
Rijkaard-Ancelotti
Cryuff-Bergkaamp-Guulit (constantly switching)
Van Baasten

France might just have the best...

Prime Zizou, Viera and Platini in mid with Henry up front, Thuram in defense?

Damn son
