I totally disagree; Rondo is a max player, I mean DeAndre Jordan is going to get a max contract so why shouldn't Rondo? If the West wasn't so loaded with Point Guards he would definitely make the All-Star team; he also single handily brought the Celtics to a game seven against the Heat about 4-6 years ago, he won a championship, he has three triple doubles. PPG don't make always make you a Max player, you need to contribute in another way to get that max contract and Rondo is definitely a max guy.
because in that time frame "4-6 years ago" a lot of stuff happened? like, his two major injuries and him admitting in public that he mailed it in defensively the last two seasons?
if we base someones next contract on his play 6 years ago, then you'll probably agree that Amare is deserving of a max deal too - am I right?
your comparison to Centers in the league is far fetched as well. the best defender amongst guard will never have the defensive impact of an average defender at C. it's just the geometry of the game that dictates their impact. on the other side of the court you'll always have the dunk to rely on even if you lack post moves or a jumper. Rondo, a guard, for that matter wont have that luxury.
the real kicker in your argument was your lack of understanding the demand-supply-curve in the league.
we have only a handful of good Cs in this era and those will get the max. we are not talking about the 90s where some of those guys would only come off the bench.
on the other hand, it seems every (western) team has an elite PG on the team.
you do the math
