Welcome to the soccer forum.

A few RSL fans around here, so it's likely a good thing they have their own thread now.

Hopefully as the league grows, so does the fan base for each team.

I don't think we are at the point where we need our own forum for MLS, but I think soon enough we'll need threads for each team.

The beauty of Salt Lake City and the entire Wasatch front is outside of the city. I love it so much.

Salt Lake is a nice clean city with low crime rate, great to raise a family. I think it says a lot that when players come here they generally stay for the long term. And it's true Utah has some of the best natural beauty in the states if you travel outside the city...

Good to see Olmes Garcia break out of that scoring slump. Big game vs Red Bulls on Wednesday.

Such an important game for both RSL and Colorado tonight.

RSL could move closer to the top of the West, or Colorado could gain ground and make the Western playoff picture even tighter.

Is the excitement building in Salt Lake with such a good team this season?

RSL has been extremely fun to watch this year.

Real Salt Lake sign Nick Rimando, Kyle Beckerman to contract extensions, "at the cusp" of Joao Plata deal

While Real Salt Lake are set to bid farewell to longtime general manager Garth Lagerwey, the Utah club are keeping a couple of key leadership figures around for years to come, according to owner Dell Loy Hansen.

RSL have secured contract extensions with veterans Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando, Hansen said in an in-depth radio interview with ESPN700 on Tuesday, and are close to signing striker Joao Plata to a permanent, long-term deal.

“We're just at the cusp of signing Plata to a five-year contract. There's a few dollars to write that check, but we want Plata there,” Hansen said. “We recently cemented agreements with Kyle and Nick to be with us the next three years. I feel the team is in a more stable position than it's been in for a very long time.”

Hardly. Keeping a young guy like Joao is definitely important going forward, but out team is slowly falling apart. We just gave Beckerman and Rimando three year extensions, which is great, but with these guys aging, you can only wonder how much they have left in the tank.

Our offseason so far

OUT
LB Chris Wingert (NYCFC, expansion draft)
CB Nat Borchers (Timbers, trade)
CM Ned Grabavoy (NYCFC, expansion draft)
CAM Sebastian Velasquez (NYCFC, trade)
CB Aaron Maund (no extension, possibly returning)
FW Robbie Findley (no extension, Toronto FC)
RB Rich Balchan (no extension)
FW Benji Lopez (no extension)
CB Carlos Salcedo (rumors sayings he'll get sent to Chivas of Guadalajara, probably won't stay here because of trade demand)
GM Garth Lagerway (contract up, sounds like he's taking front office job in Seattle)

IN
CB Jamison Olave (trade from NYRB)
LB Abdoulie Mansally (contract extension)
GK Nick Rimando (3 yr contract extension)
CDM Kyle Beckerman (3 yr contract extension)
LB Demar Phillips (awaiting visa approval)
CM Pecka (Ft Lauderdale Strikers, just a rumor right now)
FW Joao Plata (Purchased players, 5 yr contract)
New technical directer is former player and coach Craig Waibel

We lost a lot of experience and first team regulars. We also lost some our promising young guys. With what has happened this off season so far, we are worse than last year. The Western conference got much tougher with Houston and SKC now joining and our owner says we will be a 60pt team next season...hard to believe at this point. I dont think we're done, obviously....but we're going to have to make the most of our Garberbucks to have a 60pt season.

Did Joao Plata ever re-sign?

I didn't see any news that it was made official, though RSL had clearly been working towards that.
