Re: Badgers 2015 QB
Houston has been around the program 3 years. We probably would have seen something already. You gotta move on from the recruiting hype. That's all it seemingly was. There is perception, then there's reality.
McEvoy couldn't throw it in the ocean standing on the beach.
Kafenzis in all likelihood won't know enough of the playbook and be mentally mature as a true freshman.
It will in all likelihood come down to Stave or Gillins. Stave has now set a very surmountable standard, but we'll have little idea if Gillins can exceed it until at least spring practice reports and scrimmages. However, like I said in the other thread, Stave has a good winning percentage, and he played his best football in 2012 with Canada calling plays and a go to receiver in Abby, so he could re-raise the standard next year w/ Chryst and maybe one or more of the new receivers stepping up.

Some people are just gamers,
Houston went 38-1 in high school.
He needs to get some starts.

When that's your reason to start a QB, you have no case.

If you're using records, you should be a proponent of starting Stave, because he has an actual good college one. Not a peewee one.

So W/L means nothing?
Some player don't show much in practice, and truly shine once they get under the lights
Tom Brady didn't show much until he got game time
90% of the homer Packer fans were calling Rodgers a bust, UNTIL he was put in a game vs Dallas.
(by the way a was calling for us to trade Favre the minute Rodgers fell to us (About.com Packers forums))

I'm glad you weren't in charge back then. Rodgers' mechanics were messed up and he was pretty much trash when he first came into the NFL. If we had started him right away as opposed to giving him a few years to clean up his mechanics, get a feel for the professional game and get his ego under control he may have just ended up being terrible.
Rodgers himself admits that having time to sit and learn was maybe the best thing that could have happened.

Re: Badgers 2015 QB
You guys are all about rebuilding with the Bucks, let Giannis play etc.., but you would rather watch Favre throw INT after INT losing us playoff games that watch Rodgers go through growing pains and blossom......, you guys are hypocrites..
Was Steve Young was destroyed starting right away.
Maybe is the key word, I bet Rodgers would love to have a shot at all those records, those first 3 years cost him any chance at that.
The way he played vs USC and the rest of the PAC 10 caused me to become a ARodgers worshiper, I actually was higher on him as a prospect than I am now if that is possible, I thought he would be better than he is.

Yeah Stave will probably start, and we will have zero chance of winning a national championship.
Poll isnt to predict, but who you would like to see start.

Which is why I said McEvoy.

Re: Badgers 2015 QB
Houston's high school team ran the veer offense. He was as highly touted as he was because of what he did at camps, not what he did on the field. If he is any good he should be showing it in practice. I would love it if Chryst came in and saw him as the guy with the most throwing talent and he won the job, but other than a few nice passes that were dropped during garbage time I don't know what ability he really has.
I don't see Chryst being interested in McEvoy. He is a pro-style guy and will want someone that can play in the pocket.
Stave's problem is that he can't be trusted even as a game manager for a run heavy offense. I don't know about the other two guys. Although it doesn't excite me or anyone else, the best hope is probably that better coaching will improve Stave's decision making.

I could've sworn the poll said "who WILL BE the Badgers QB in 2015" when I voted a couple hours ago. I might be going crazy.
Anyways, it would be nice for someone else to beat out Stave, but I think there's almost no chance he's not the starter next year.

as a 3-4 star prospect why is kafentzis getting so much more hype than 4 star gillins/houston? is it generally accepted that # of stars don't mean a whole lot?

# of stars are the best barometer you can get normally. People rip them because overrated teams fail with high star players, but they are still right a lot of the time.
I have no idea how good Kafentzis will really be, but the reason his star rating is lower is that he "shut it down" (Taffer) his sophomore year of HS basically and committed to Gary Andersen. Star ratings are based on camp performances and other offers you get...neither of which were big for him. Nobody contacted him because he was committed and he didn't do many camps.
A lot of the hypers claim he is very good but never had a chance to get the offers. Supposedly, when andersen left and it seemed that his commitment was vulnerable, some big time teams contacted him. Who knows. I'll just be happy if one of the young guys steps up in 2016.
To Lippo, it's probably going to be Stave. I think Gillins or Kafentzis may someday be guys that can be "better" but as seen by Stave's performance, he's good enough to beat packed boxes in a weak Big Ten West. I doubt Gillins or Kafentzis are better than him this early.
When you say "zero chance of winning a national championship" with Stave, I agree. I just can't imagine any of the other QBs to be good enough either. So play the best one.

The team won't have national championship caliber talent next year regardless of who is playing QB. Ohio St for example had so much more overall talent than Wisconsin that it is one game away from winning a title and whipped us 59-0 while on it's 3rd string QB.
Melvin Gordon's greatness this season and a weak schedule covered for a variety of warts the team had. They won 11 games with terrible quarterback play and a horrific WR core mainly just because Gordon and Clement could run wild on mostly bad defenses.
It sucks big time that likely next year Stave will yet again be the Badgers starting quarterback, but barring a very surprising quick development from one of the younger quarterbacks, it is what it is, Stave winning the job by default. So we'll just have to live with his exasperating moments of brutal brainfarts, awful inaccuracy to sometimes wide open receivers, and cement feet in the pocket simply because Chryst will have decided the other options are worse. Chryst isn't blind and watched that abomination that Stave put out there vs Auburn, but most college coach don't like starting freshman quarterbacks unless they clearly show the job should go to them.
