The differences between Paul and Trimble as a freshman was Paul was younger, and more importantly he showed he was a PG - with a 7.0/3.2 assist/to ratio per 40 minutes. Trimble's is 3.9/3.3. The better comparison to Paul is Tyus Jones. Both Trimble and Jones are tremendously efficient scorers for frosh - taking lots of 3's and getting to the line. But keep in mind for NBA prospect purposes - Trimble will be 20 in February. Jones expertly runs Duke's offense, and Trimble hasn't shown he can create for his teammates - yet.

Ugliest game I've seen in a while, really didn't deserve to win that one. Though if we had hit 2-3 of our wide open threes in the first I don't think this one would have been close.

Last 15 minutes of that game was just trimble or wells one on one driving. It worked so I can live with with it.

The team plays too passively sometimes, just passing it around the arc for 30 seconds then forcing up a bad shot. I wouldn't mind some more aggression out of guys like Nickens, Wiley, Pack, or Laymen. Even if its a reckless drive, just show the defense that your willing to attack.

Layman needs to get more than 4 shots.

This is our best team since '03 easily. With how many young guys we have contributing, our future outlook much better than the Vasquez's sr squad and those tourney teams with DJ Strawberry, etc

Turgeon really turning things around in his tenure.

Glad to get another ugly win. This team is deadly from the free throw line, which will keep them alive in games they struggle.

Still not a huge fan of the offense. Maybe they're just running it a little to timidly, but I would like to see more drive penetration.

But this team has talent. Wiley, Nickens and Pack can all provide sparks when Laymen isn't clicking. Dodd has also been a pleasant surprise. Dodd's emergence has been difference between a top 25 and a top 15 team.

Nice win for the Lady Terps, who almost unbelievably are rated lower than the men's team.

No one would have expected this given Brenda Frese's team made last year's Final Four, and they always recruit well.

Turgeon has had a spectacular 2014-2015 so far, compared to his past seasons.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/co ... story.html

Dodd’s athleticism, emotion and energy were uncontainable at times as Maryland won its Big Ten home debut, 70-58. His impact started in the first half — he ripped down two consecutive offensive rebounds and muscled his way to a layup, punctuating the play by shaking his head violently and doing a celebratory dance — and continued into the second. He roared after getting fouled on a missed dunk, which drew a standing ovation as he walked to the free throw line.

“It’s coming along pretty well,” Dodd said. “I’m continuously learning how to play the game by watching other people play, and trusting my teammates is also helping me a lot.”

In Dodd’s 13 first-half minutes, the 6-foot-11 center finished with nine points, seven rebounds (three offensive) and two blocks, and Maryland was plus-18 with him on the floor. His most aesthetically pleasing shot of the afternoon came when he drove past Minnesota center Elliott Eliason on the baseline and scooped a layup in from underneath the basket

Dodd showed tremendous athleticism coming out of Eastern Shore, MD. He lacks skill but is a big time athlete. The key thing is Dodd is learning. Seems to have a spirited attitude and is very teachable.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

O yeah, the guy is one of the most athletic bigs that I can remember coming through the system. It his offense that has been the surprise for me. I was expecting him to be useless in post, but he actually produces when given touches in good position.

If the guy ever develops a decent jumpshot he could have an Ibaka like impact at the collegant level.

Terps men actually made the top 10 - ranked numba 9! Congrats to them. I think the climb up has a lot to do with Dodd stepping up - He was very impressive last game.

I'm in the strange position of "rooting" for the Terps this year, as each win makes the Cavs' road win look that much more impressive. Still, I think there's a difference between hoping for an outcome (MD win) and "rooting" for it - that being the emotional involvement. So, let's be temporary allies for the rest of the season and hope we meet in the Final Four!

Who’s That Guy? Maryland Freshman Phenom Melo Trimble!

Who is he? Romelo Delante “Melo” Trimble, Maryland’s 6-foot-3 point guard.

Does he own the best name in college basketball? Undeniably. GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUTTA HERE, YOGI FERRELL.

Where is he from? Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Year: He’s a true freshman. Didn’t you read the headline?

Stats: He’s averaging 16.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

His game in 110 words: With deep range and a decent handle, Trimble is a prototypical combo guard. He leads the Terps in scoring and is a close second to senior Dez Wells in assists. Trimble can get to the foul line with impressive ease, and is leading the nation in made free throws, with 106.

His early success has created an enviable dilemma for Maryland coach Mark Turgeon, who wants his best player on the court as much as possible, but also fresh for the long haul. Trimble has shown no signs of slowing down, however, making it hard to justify even a minor reduction in playing time from his 32.7 minutes per game.

You might know him from: Leading 11th-ranked Maryland to its best start in 16 years, DUH. (It’s impossible to avoid using the word “lead” a lot when writing about Trimble, and no, I’m not talking about the poisonous pencil material!) The Terps improved to 14-1 on Saturday with a 70-58 win over Lil’ Pitino’s Golden Gophers, largely due to Trimble’s 20-point outing, which came on the heels of a 17-point effort in

Maryland’s double-overtime road victory over Michigan State. The dude has no chill.
If you’re a recruiting aficionado, you likely had Trimble on your radar coming into the season. ESPN deemed him a five-star prospect and ranked him 29th overall, making him the crown jewel of Maryland’s class. Rivals gave him a mere four stars and is probably seriously regretting that decision.

Terps Add 6-foot-9 Croatian Ivan Bender

Maryland basketball has added European big man Ivan Bender, a source confirmed to Inside Maryland Sports. Bender is eligible immediately and could join the team on the court as soon as next week.

A 6-foot-9, 210-pound forward who averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists at the 2013 Under-19 World Championships, Bender has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join Mark Turgeon's team in the second semester. DraftExpress rated the 18-year old Bender as the No. 47 international prospect in his age group earlier this year; if he's fully recovered from an ACL injury suffered more than a year ago, he could provide help in the Terps' thin frontcourt.

Maryland's success developing Alex Len and its high-profile signing of Michal Cekovsky have given the Terps branding among European prospects, and may have helped in their pursuit of Bender.

An open scholarship -- and the need for another big man -- arose during the summer, when freshman Trayvon Reed didn't enroll at Maryland following an arrest. With the signings of Bender and junior college point guard Jaylen Brantely, Maryland will have four scholarships open after this season. Turgeon has relied heavily on sophomore Damonte Dodd and freshman Cekovsky in the post, and could use another big body now that Big Ten play has arrived.

Per sources familiar with his situation, Bender has been rehabbing the injury in Israel with his younger brother, 6-11 16-year-old Dragan Bender, is regarded as one of Europe's best NBA prospects, but is highly unlikely to play college basketball.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
