Greg Roman leaving

Post#1 » by jackwindham » Fri Jan 2, 2015 11:15 pm

It is looking more and more likely that the San Francisco 49ers are going to have a new offensive coordinator next season. Greg Roman is now linked to both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars as a potential new assistant coach. For what it's worth, Roman's college roommate is the general manager of the Jaguars.

Unless, of course, Fangio is promoted and keeps Roman around.

Two years too late.....absolutely no way Fangio keeps him. I'm almost certain that was question one during his interview with York.

York and Baalke don't.....they don't want an HC that keeps Roman.

I hope he doens't let the door hit him on the ass on the way out...might leave some residual bad offense mojo in the building.

Offense was praised and not criticized when the team was winning.

Not true. The RUNNING game was praised, something Roman decided was against the Niners' best interest over the last couple seasons for some unknown reason.

Not really, the most we really got where comments on some of the different formations we used, some exaggerated their effect, but the results kept us ranked in the lower half. That stupid Jumbo package caught peoples attention, but it never really worked. Our red zone offense always was really bad under Roman. This year he had a bad habit of neglecting Gore. He didn't make good use of our TE's in the passing game either.

I'm going to disagree here. There were some pretty innovative stuff, in regards to being able to hide the plays with the various formations. There could be three or four possible plays from any particular formation. That keeps the defense on their toes. They know that the power running is coming at them, but they had difficulties stopping it.

Roman leaving of his own volition?

Shame he isn't going with Jimmy to Michigan so he can screw up THEIR offense, too. (And I say that as someone who hates THE OSU.)

Roman was as good as gone when Harbaugh left. The 49ers denied permission to other teams for Fangio as a DC yet Roman is free to interview wherever he wants. Tells you something

Roman was just a mad scientist. Kap was just not able to keep up the constant playbook changes and how the plays were called. He basically goes up to the line of scrimage with 3 plays to choose from plus audibles. It is no wonder why we league in timeouts after stoppage in play.

Isn't that kind of a bare minimum, though? If a team only runs one play out of a particular formation, it would be pretty ineffective, oh, after the first game in which they implemented it.
