Jerian Grant

Post#1 » by 24istheLAW » Tue Jan 7, 2014 6:24 pm

Has he stated whether or not he will return to Notre Dame with his final year of eligibility or go elsewhere?

And if you have an opinion on him as an NBA player please share.

In his initial statement, he said that he plans on returning to Notre Dame once he is eligible again -- that probably won't be until the next fall semester. I don't think he'll enter the draft this year.

"It is my full intention to return to Notre Dame as soon as possible following the 2014 spring semester. I intend to do whatever it takes to earn my degree and finish out my college basketball career here. I understand that there is a process that I must go through in order to come back to school and I will be patient with that process."

Rumors are Grant's stock is rising like crazy. He's such a well rounded 2 guard, his outside shooting has really improved and he's a good athlete.

Are there any similarities to Brandon Roy?

Who would you compare him to?

Watch him rise like BRoy did, that Notre Dame team is legit, first to admit that I really underrated him, he prove me wrong, he is really old but that is the only knock that maybe keep him out of the lotto.

I don't know why his emergence was new to anyone. His handles have always been great, he can pass well, he's an oversized PG, has athleticism and can shoot from all over the floor.

I thought he and Dinwiddie should have been lottery picks.

He is a better athlete, shooter and playmaker than Dinwiddie.

I've had him in the 20s for awhile now. Age being my only concern.

His stats were actually a little better last season - as a 21 year old junior - so I'm not concerned about his age.

While I like Grant, after watching the ND/UNC game, I think Demetrius Jackson is a better prospect - in the Eric Bledsoe mold. Jackson is even playing a similar role that Bledsoe played with Wall at KY. Jackson isn't as long and explosive as Bledsoe, but he's far better than the 60th best sophomore in the nation that draftexpress.com has him. He's helped by Notre Dame's spread offense - with so many 3 point shooters around him, but he deserves the credit for his near 66% FG% on 2's and 42% on 3's. Jackson has played some point, and I doubt he'll have any more trouble than Bledsoe had adjusting to the 1 in the NBA. While not being quite as explosive as Bledsoe, he looks easily more explosive than Grant - and that showed in their abilities to finish at the hoop on drives.

Grant had a tough game scoring - and looked like he wasn't able to take advantage of his size advantage to shoot over small UNC guards. But he was still excellent in running the offense and driving to create opportunities (particularly corner 3's) for his teammates - going both right and left.

Ridiculously great performance by Grant last night against Notre Dame - at both ends of the court.

Yeah, I think his stock is rising. I'm still not sure how he's going to translate to the NBA. I think he's more of a 2 like Manu Ginobili than a PG.

I don't see why he wouldn't translate as a PG. He sets up his teammates like a pure PG. Even though he scores a lot, he's a pass-first player - as opposed to Ginobili. Granted, some of the quicker and speedier NBA PG's will test him, but his advantage in size and length will test them.

I tend to agree. He looks more like a 2 that can handle than a 1. He is certainly a good enough passer to play the 1, but I'm not sure he has the floor game to be a 1 full time in the NBA.

What I love about Grant is his willingness to attack the basket. So many guys his size are content to hover around the perimeter, but he puts his head down and attacks the defense.

What's crazy for me is that Sulaimon and Winslow are both good defenders and he managed to put up that game last night even with those two guys on him. He should be a lottery pick.

He got past both those guys with ease last night.
