Hawks get creative to coax All-Star votes for Teague and Co.

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Sat Dec 13, 2014 6:26 pm

Hawks getting some early buzz and kudos for a memorable All Star campaign for the starting 5:

The original '#Hashtag' skit, in which Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake launch into what a Twitter conversation would sound like in real life, has racked up over 27 million views on YouTube.
The Atlanta Hawks have gotten into the act with reserves Kent Bazemore and Mike Muscala, and they've done so to generate votes for their All-Star Game hopefuls. Bazemore and Muscala stump for Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap, Al Horford, Kyle Korver, DeMarre Carroll, but as Bazemore says "these guys all deserve to go, #TakeTheWholeTeam."

The video was filmed Thursday. The players said it took only about a half an hour to shoot. They did the routine twice as it was filmed from two angles and the final product was edited. The video was shot in the recently renovated conference room that was formally the locker room of the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers.

The Hawks released the video on Twitter Friday afternoon. It was played during a timeout later that night during the game with the Magic and was well received by those in attendance.

“It’s fun,” Bazemore said. “You get to show a little personality, get be yourself. That’s easy.”

One thing Ferry (and presumably Koonin) definitely improved was the digital Marketing Dept for the franchise. It's more interactive, more effective, than any previous incarnation. (Hell was there even a Digital marketing Dept before Ferry and Koonin?)

Good to see a couple little known backups get some face time, also.

Pretty nice , usually the starters would promote themselves.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

I love the direction the hawks are heading in. I thought the video was awesome.

Teague still not getting the attention from the press:

Lillard and Teague both left out, even though they quarterback top teams right now...

Sadly, Hawks still not getting much attention in the All Star vote department:

Hawks forward Paul Millsap is 13th among frontcourt players in the first NBA All-Star voting results released by the league Thursday. Millsap, who was named a reserve for the Eastern Conference in his first season with the Hawks last year, has received 21,545 votes...
No other Hawks player is in the top 15 among front court players nor the top 10 in backcourt players.

The starters in the Eastern Conference are currently James, Carmelo Anthony, Pau Gasol, John Wall and Dwyane Wade.

Backcourt Top Vote Getters in the East

1. John Wall (Was) 299,209

2. Dwyane Wade (Mia) 265,917

3. Kyrie Irving (Cle) 237,356

4. Kyle Lowry (Tor) 182,896

5. Derrick Rose (Chi) 105,465

6. Jimmy Butler (Chi) 99,984

7. DeMar DeRozan (Tor) 51,946

8. Giannis Antetokounmpo (Mil) 17,512

9. Lou Williams (Tor) 15,329

10. Bradley Beal (Was) 13,911

Ironically, Lou has gotten a huge bump since leaving ATL, deservedly so.

Teague's only chance lies with the coaches. But with ATL having its most impressive streak with Teague sidelined, it likely allows KI, K Lowry, D-Rose and Jimmy Butler to split most of those votes at guard.

Still, if Hawks are top 3 team by the time AS Selection ends, the coaches will likely choose between Korver, Millsap or Horford. No way they allow a top team playing as well as us to send 0 players to the AS Game.

I predict coaches add either Korver (well deserved 1st timer) or Horford (fitting return of our best player) to the mid-season spectacle.

Korver will definitely be invited to the 3-pt shooting contest again.

Dennis will undoubtedly be invited to play in the sophomore-rookie game.

I would love to see Korver selected into the all-star game. The man deserves it. His shooting percentages/stats are off the wall insane. He may not be flashy but I'd take that shooting touch over any "flashy" abilities 10 times out of 10.

Can you imagine the kind of numbers Korver could put up at the all-star game where defense is but an after-thought?

Yeah...Teague and Millsap seem like locks at this point.

I wonder if Millsap is playing himself out of our price range. If he's a 2x All Star in our system with this team...would he stay no matter what or chase that last big contract.

All depends on the playoff results my friend. If we are eliminated in the first round I see our chances of resigning him around 25%. If we are eliminated in the 2nd round then I think the chances jump to 50/50. If we are eliminated in the ECF then I think we have a 100% chance of resigning him. As for the money goes..with his production this season I think I'd be fine giving him 10-12 mil. The guy deserves it if not more.

As a Raptors fan, Kyle Lowry didn't get any attention last year when he deserved it... might take the league another year until Teague get's more.
