Scouting Report

Giants: Noah Lowry is coming off a masterful start that earned the Giants their first series win since May 23. Other than a two-run homer in the third, Lowry shutdown Toronto's offense over six innings with a minimal amount of pitches. Lowry is 0-1 against the Brewers with a 7.48 ERA in two appearances.

Brewers: Gallardo will make his Major League debut at Miller Park against the Giants. Gallardo, 21, was 8-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 13 starts for Triple-A Nashville, and he led all of Minor League Baseball with 110 strikeouts. He throws a low-90s fastball and a quality curveball, and can also mix in a change-up.

Captain Erv's Thoughts: Well, it has been a solid two weeks since I have done a game thread and I forgot how much I miss it! After losing being up 3 with two outs in the 9th and getting no-hit, I figured we'd come back from this roadtrip .500 or worse, but we showed some resiliency. It would have been nice to get the last game against the Twins, but we now must focus on making up some more ground on this nine-game homestand against some very beatable teams. It starts tonight with Yovani Gallardo making his Major League debut and Rickie Weeks returning from the DL. Lets hope the rest of the guys are amped up for this one and we can get this homestand started on a good foot.

I doubt weeks is hitting 8th.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Brewers manager Ned Yost said the team was planning to activate second baseman Rickie Weeks from the disabled list Monday, but wouldn't say definitively where Weeks would hit in the lineup and hadn't decided who to send down to clear roster space.

But the skipper dropped enough hints for a very educated guess: Corey Hart will stay in the leadoff hole, Weeks will bat eighth and either Gabe Gross or Tony Gwynn Jr. will be optioned to Triple-A Nashville.

i hope rickie won't leadoff, but ned said he would be when he came back. corey is hot right now he should stay there. although if hart hits in the five hole in today's (TWINS) game he probably ends up with more than 3 rbi and the game looks different. anyways, i'm jealous of cpt erv getting to do yo's first start game thread

Gross better be the one optioned to triple a. But very interesting i did not know yost said that.

Even Yost isn't dumb enough to put Weeks in the leadoff spot Monday night. Is he?

My guess is Gwynn will be sent down....he has been terribly overmatched at the plate and teams have figured out if you bust him hard and inside he can't handle that pitch (not strong enough).....so he needs to be getting work everyday.

I agree that it would be nice to get Gwynn some consistent playing time, but at least he can do some things off the bench (steal bases, bunt, good defense). What can you say about Gross? he has been horrid.

What has Gross proven to you that he can play in the mlb everyday.

Those are pretty high expectations, DT. I would take a quality start and a solid W, but I hope he pitches great. I definitely wish I was going to this one.

I really have no expectations for Gallardo. Lots of phenomenal pitchers have struggled early in their careers.

I'm mainly interested to see how his stuff looks so I can better judge his future.

I'm interested in that too. He's not a power pitcher, I want to see what kind of stuff he has that he racked up so many K's. In the long run he'll probably be fine, no need to panic if he gets knocked around tonight.

He can't be worse than Suppan has been the last month.

with a fastball topping out at 92 or so, you'd think his control would be sick to get all those k's down there. that would be nice....do we have any players he is projected to be like? or that already looks like?

i thought he could dial it up to 95 and top out at that. Ive read all kinds of scouting reports saying mid 90s fast ball and a big hard breaking curve, plus a changeup and a good slider. I also read where a scout says he is Ben Sheets with 2 out pitches both a changeup and a slider.
