I still haven't gone back and rewatched it, but I maintain that the fight was very close, even as a whole. Maybe that will change with a rewatch, but maybe it won't, because I'll probably just be looking to confirm what I thought the first time.
Rounds 1 and 5 (more so 1) were close enough for me to give 10-10s in a title fight (or any fight). I don't think 5 round fights should be decided on rounds that close. In both, you had Jones doing a lot of controlling and Jones things, but for me that flies out the window when the other guy starts doing actual damage, even if it's only for one of the five minutes.
2 was DC, nobody seems to dispute that.
3 was close. I gave it to DC at the time, but it may be a 10-10 or even a Jones round.
4 was Jones, the most dominant round, and the reason why I'm fine with Jones winning.
5, as above, had Jones winning by control, but Cormier got that slam (kinda) and was finishing strong. 10-10 or Jones.
For as much as DC was said to have been broken by the end of the fight, I could see a round 6 going either way. I know that's not supposed to matter, and it doesn't for official scoring, but for my sense of who would win a rematch, or whether a rematch is appealing, it absolutely does.
So for me, anything from 49-49 to 49-46 Jones would be reasonable.
But I thought it was a close fight, a great fight, and one I'd be more than willing to see happen again very soon.
