I expect Chris Webber to get involved at some point.
He'll need to be backed by some solid money but he's already came out and said that he wants to own a team. If I remember correctly, I believe the Hawks had been mentioned in the article, but this has been months ago.

Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed issued a statement on Wednesday on the Atlanta Hawks and their potential sale. Mayor Reed previously met with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver about the Hawks situation and came away reassured that the team would remain in Atlanta for the long haul.

Webber was mentioned in this article http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... nta-hawks/ Mutombo was mentioned too. I dont really have much faith that either will actually get the team.

Good article from Chris Viva about the ownership search over at ajc.

We all heard the Webber rumors but with the emergence of Hank and also of Dikembe being the figurehead of two other groups, they have a bit more credibility with Atlanta.

Im not sure I want another group as the owner again...groups don't seem like they work out and it's hard to get everyone to agree or be on the same page. I'd prefer just one single person.

This doesn't really deserve it's own thread, so I'll just park it here.

But this is the last act of the embarrassment that was the Atlanta Spirit:

A buyout of Danny Ferry’s contract with the Atlanta Hawks was reached and approved Friday morning by the team’s board of managers, according to two people with knowledge of the negotiations. It will end the tenure of the general manager after he spent the past season on an indefinite leave of absence.

An official announcement of the news will come in the next several days.

The move is the last of the ownership group known as the Atlanta Spirit, who are selling the Hawks and Philips Arena. A group led by Tony Ressler has reached agreement to buy the team, a transaction that will be finalized on Wednesday. The buyout of Ferry’s contract will be the responsibility of the old ownership group. Ferry had two years remaining on the six-year, $18 million contract he signed in 2012. The buyout calls for Ferry to receive more money than he was owed on the contract.
HERE

From Belkin to Levenson to Gearon, they were pretty terrible from start to finish.

The playoff guarantee of 2004
The public suing of each other for custody
The Ferry Fiasco
The almost sale to Meruelo
The mismanagement of the Thrashers
The JJ contract

Just awful....

Mr. Ressler could not have walked into a better scenario. His predecessors were buffoons. His current Coach is a keeper. The best winning season in franchise history.

Don't let us down, Tony.

Shame that the A$G sans Levenson STILL retain ownership stakes though. Wanted those guys all the way out and gone.
