How is it desperate? Two picks that will be late first round and won't help in the short term and possibly not even long term. Sometimes picks are a little overvalued. People think, "oh first round pick", but in reality, a late first round pick isn't likely to come and make an immediate impact. I think the Cavs have done a great job turning Waiters into 3 key rotation guys while addressing major holes.

They need to get a lot better. Quickly..

Those first rounders are MEM's and OKC's. They have all their own picks going forward. (And probably didn't want to have multiple roster spots taken up by rookies taken in the late 20s next year.)

Also not sure why you're giving the Cavs guff for trading for someone who will start for them ASAP while also complaining that they need to improve immediately. How else exactly do they do that?

fancynapkin wrote:Sort of reminds me of the Meeks signing by Pistons. Sometimes it is worth it to "overpay" for players that fit perfectly.

Keep in mind they're not just getting Mozgov...they're getting him for $4.5m for two years. Few decent vets in the game make less than that, and it means a lot to a team already paying the tax.

Jesus Christ, that's the definition of desperate. Especially when Love isn't locked up yet and could easily bolt if they STILL fall to live up to expectations.

So does Mozgov makes the Cavs contenders?
Mozgov is the true defensive force that will hide the weakness of Love, Irving, and even Lebron sometimes...?
Varejao was as good.

have you seen the protections on that Memphis pick?

wouldn't be shocking at all for that to be a lottery pick

Pelicans gave up one protected first for Omer Asik

And Mozgov is making significantly less over the next two years than the Pelicans are paying Asik this year.

How do you expect them to live up to expectations and satisfy Love and LeBron if they don't make moves? This isn't desperate at all. If they do nothing, and are a first round exit (which they will be if they don't replace Varejao) than Love and possible LeBron are gone anyway. They are giving up late 1st's for a guy that will be an immediate impact.

So basically Waiters, the Memphis pick and their Bogans TPE for JR Smith, Iman Shumpert & Mozgov.

They addressed needs but they've fired all their guns. Really need Mozgov to stay healthy and JR to not be JR.

yeah well as a Laker fan i know very well what it's like to give out what people thought would be none consequential picks for something ,and that was for a player who was thought to be far better than Mozgov who isn't very good to begin with. Not to mention the Memphis pick may just end up being a good one considering how it becomes just top five protected after a couple of years and then unprotected following that, (just when you'd either expect Marc to be gone as well as Conley, or just when both players are in the down hill part of their careers) So yeah it seems desperate to me. Besides the Cavs weren't even playing well with Varejao who is a better player than Mozgov.

SHould have used just one of those picks to get a rim protector when the season started. Did anyone honestly expect Anderson Varejao to play a healthy season?

You guys have to realize they traded these 2 picks to keep Lebron and show him they'll do anything to win now so he doesn't bolt again. I'd take Lebron + Mozgov over two first round picks.

Seems like a pretty decent haul from those 2 deals for Cleveland.

Think 2 first rounders (although both protected from 2 good teams) is an overpay for Mozgov, but considering they really only gave up Waiters + Memphis' first rounder, for Mozgov, JR, and Shump. That's almost a no brainer to make those moves, as they needed a rim protector - and they pretty much got an older Waiters with JR, and another body in Shump.

Do gm`s want the caves to get better. It feel like everytime lebron is down and ready to go on a losing spree some gm helps the caves get right back up. I mean this is called gift wrapping good players to a already powerful team. Who is behind all this crazyness? Let them figure it out, why give them a starting center knowing that's all they want. 2 first round picks from the caves are like the 27th and 28th pick. Now they right back on top again plus have there lockdown defender in shumpert. The NBA is ridged

Dude... Denver got TWO picks for a marginal player. They didn't gift wrap anything. They made a GREAT trade.

(Also - neither of the picks are the Cavs own. They are OKC and Memphis.)

Don't they still have that Brendan Haywood $10.5mil non-guaranteed contract?

Plus I believe Cleveland still has a couple more 1st rounders and some 2nd rounders to trade.

It's a good trade. Hardly desperate. It makes them significantly better.

I'm sick of this . bulls need to enter this sweepstakes. 2nd round pick to okc for Anthony morrow. If all it takes is a crapy pick to become major contenders. How bout tony Snell for Kevin martin. The gm`s are drunk for already championship teams so why not join in. Waiters got gift wrapped to okc for bordenline trash. Caves lose one player and gain 3 needed players. Hell let's trade taj Gibson for LA Marcus aldridge
