This reeks of the old Lebron Cleveland days (Jameson, Shaq, Larry Hughes etc). Just goes to show you that Lebron doesn't want to build anything in Cleveland. He just wants to hit it and run.

We just flipped just flipped 2018 second-round pick, Memphis's heavily protected 1st rounder and Dion Waiters for Iman Shumpert, JR Smith and Timofey Mozgov.
I'm ecstatic.

Curious to hear from nugget fans, is Mozgov worth this? Overpay? Underpay?

Gilbert should just sell the franchise and make James run everything, he does that anyways.

This trade was necessary for the Cavs, though I'm not sure about the JR Smith trade, he can really hurt that team. There is going to be a huge spotlight on the Cavs. Just watch J.R being a distraction in a critical moment. Playing a playoffs game drunk.
Overall, I think they broke even, they brought a positive, plus a negative, so both trades equal themselves out.

Cavs waived AJ price. Rumours are that they're looking at Oneil/Dalembert

It does look just like Lebron's last couple of seasons in Cleveland the first time around. He's pressuring ownership to make all kinds of moves for assets of dubious value.

denver gets....idk. unless they are planning on consolidating later, they let a valuable piece go for marginal assets.
Who's the "double double C" -?
Mozgov has NEVER averaged that in his career. (which is kinda pathetic)
And late 1st are a lot more valuable then you seem to think they are... ever since the last CBA, the value of 1sts went WAY up.
Pathetic? He average less than 26 minutes, you want him to average 10 and 10 in 26 minutes and 6.6 shots?
How is it pathetic? Was Mozgov called the next Wilt Chamberlain and nobody told me?

So you value a pick in the 40-60 range in 2018, a pick that will take years to materialize and Dion Waiters over actual players that fit a rosters need on a playoff team?
Quite the basketball mind we have here

Meh.....depends on the team drafting.
Look at what the Spurs have done.
Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler, and Niko Mitoric were all late round picks or acquired for late round picks.
Hit on some of those picks, and you can extend a title window. Bulls were able to trade-up into the late lottery to get McD because we had multiple picks to move. It is why the Bulls has another title window after this one (Noah/Gasol/Gibson/MDJ) assuming they can keep them together.
So you leave it to the "chance" that you hit in draft with some "future" draft picks that have protections? That sounds better to you than to fill a hole and help your current contending team with players named Lebron, Irivng, Love (in their primes I must add)?

These picks are heavily protected over the next 3 years, after which they become 2 second round picks. You can live with that payment to have a shot at the title this year.
For some teams, there is value in late first rounders (Spurs, Bulls, Denver). But I think even Cleveland has to be honest with themselves and admitting that they are terrible at drafting besides selecting the consensus #1 picks. Those late mid to late first rounders would garner very little returns if we're looking at historical track records anyway for Cleveland. So really, it's a benefit that the Cavs are able to get at least some assets for their picks.

I'm shocked at the negativity about this trade on this forum...but that is the narrative right now. I think this is fantastic value. The "2 firsts" language is being heavily used because it omits all the protections and place those picks will fall and years they will materialize from the conversations. OKC is going to be in the 20's this year and the Memphis pick could take 3 years to even materialize. How does that help the Cavs now? If we kept them, the narrative would be "you are wasting Lebron's prime years!"
No win situation for people who have made up there minds already.

Well yeah, if you ignore the fact that these were two different trades its fine.

Nobody knows what can happen tomorrow. What if Love leaves? Irving or Lebron get injured?
You have to play for right now and worry about tomorrow. Draft picks are not as valuable to a championship contender over a veteran player that fills a hole.

Maybe if he was better he would get more then 26 minutes? Maybe I was a little harsh... but I was reacting to leolozon's post which went too far in the other direction.

Don't push it either. If the Cavs were a middle of the pack team, then this is definitely an overpay. Cavs are a contender so picks don't matter over helping fill a hole. Nuggets get good value. Both team's helped each other today since they are heading in different directions.

As I stated...it depends on the team. Some teams are much better at drafting than others. I think they were wise to fill their holes, but you are the one that said you don't understand the obsession with future picks.

Re: Stein: Mozgov Traded To Cleveland For 2 First Round Picks
Well CLE got 2 SG's, rim protection and OKC pick which they passed on and it only gave Memphis pick and 2nd rounder along with Dion Cancer and 2 scrubs.
I find this fine honestly. Even better if they collect Sam Dalembert.
