Re: Stein: Mozgov Traded To Cleveland For 2 First Round Picks
So DIon Waiters is moved like everyone assumed, and they got Mozgov like many theorized. As far as JR Smith, I think he can really help the team also Shumpert is able. Those 2 first round picks don't matter to them because they're trying to win. I think they made some good moves.

We just flipped just flipped 2018 second-round pick, Memphis's heavily protected 1st rounder and Dion Waiters for Iman Shumpert, JR Smith and Timofey Mozgov.
I'm ecstatic.
Because you just flipped 2018 second-round pick, Memphis's heavily protected 1st rounder and Dion Waiters for Iman Shumpert, JR Smith and Timofey Mozgov.
I was going to say "because people have watched those guys play basketball" but you summed it up nicely.
I feel like all people want to do is try to get some jabs in and get a few And 1s, instead of actually make a good point.

I'm not impressed by the Cavs and neither should anyone else be.
The Cavs were dealing with teams that were rebuilding and had a fire sale. They are giving so much to just to win now, and what they have won't be enough.

What is "so much"? I can understand not loving the players acquired, but what are all these assets that we gave up that were going to help us?

Produces less offense compared to TT and Andy .. does not hurt the offense but isnt a good individual scorer either
a good Rim Protector at defense, not a blocking machine( 2 bpg per 36) but his opponents shoot under 50% at the Rim
last year it was 47%. He is Top 10 in the League at opponents FG% at the Rim.
Also he is Huge at 7'1

Re: Stein: Mozgov Traded To Cleveland For 2 First Round Picks
I think Mozgov is the type of rotational big they needed to get, especially since AV went down.
People say its a wash between the two, but what those people may not realize is that mozgov actually blocks shots and has better size to plug the lane. Their overall defense should be better in that sense. Not saying mozgov is some kind of shutdown defender otr anything, but teh cavs had no one who even averaged a block this season thus far I beleive.
It also helps that he is a competent offensive player and not a liability at the line.
Now all they need to do is get healthy, and I think they have better pieces that fit. To me, Waiters had the Josh Smith kind of effect on the cavs. Now that he is gone, I see more team oriented ball and also better chemistry.

And he isn't just a rental, he is a cheap center that we also keep on the roster next year. Offense is a non-factor. The Cavs have been scoring without even effectively running sets or being on the same page offensively. Having Lebron, Love and Irving will do that.

Borderline overpay but you needed a center and it's one of the better deals you could have made.
I think you have to pair it with the other deal when you assess the overall moves though.
Waiters + 1st round pick with weird protections that won't be worth anything until 2017 for Shumpert, JR and Moz?
Not a bad haul.

Yes i missed that thanks!
around 5 mio per year for a Starting Center is a total bargain
and hes "only" 28 so compared to a guy like Dalembert or JO hes young enough to contribute a quite a few years

When you're trying to win and and dealing with rebuilding teams you usually have to give a little more than you'd like. Rebuilding teams can hold on to their players for longer, especially when the other team needs your player badly (like Cavs need a center). Better to pull on the deal soon instead of waiting until the last minute when it'll cost you even extra.

Re: Stein: Mozgov Traded To Cleveland For 2 First Round Picks
What are the main holes people keep saying Cleveland has? No center to protect the rim, no starting two guard and no bench scoring right?
People need to start giving David Griffin a little credit. He turned basically Dion Waiters and an extra 1st rounder Cleveland had into a potential fix for all of those issues.
Mosgov is a starting center in this league. He's not Eric Dampier or Ronny Turiaf.
Iman Shumpert gives Cleveland a starting two guard and a wing that allows them to be a much more versatile team.
JR Smith should, if nothing else, help with bench scoring.
Those are good moves, especially considering they didn't really give up a lot of value.

Other posters already answered it. Your comparison makes it look like he is just a bigger, better defending version of the other two.oikosnomos wrote:panthermark wrote:oikosnomos wrote:
Bigger and can actually defender the rim.
That is true....but come on now....
Tell the whole story.....both sides.
? I'm trying to understand what you are looking for. Maybe a critic of the Cavs drafting?

Oh yeah, he isn't anything special offensively. Did not mean to imply that at all.

Benedict_Boozer wrote:Did DEN give up a 2nd rounder also? Our beat reporter is saying that.
If it is included that helps a bit because I imagine it would be a high 2nd rounder which can net you a 1st round talent without the guaranteed contract (assuming DEN didn't put protections on the 2nd rounder).
I have not heard anything about a 2nd rounder, but if it is one of the Nuggets it is 4 years out, but they do have a couple of 2nds in the late 2nd round this year.

The kind of move that strikes fear into Pau Gasol and the Chicago Bulls.

Not to mention he was one of the better defensive centers last season as well.crazy_me_87 wrote:panthermark wrote:Other posters already answered it. Your comparison makes it look like he is just a bigger, better defending version of the other two.oikosnomos wrote:

Well, I'm not sure about all that, but it makes the Cavs better. Hopefully the Cavs get healthy and build some chemistry. Then maybe the Bulls might worry about the Cavs a bit. The Bulls already have all that going for them.
