Longtime MLB infielder John McDonald officially ended his playing career Wednesday, retiring from baseball.
McDonald played 16 seasons in the big leagues, including seven with the Toronto Blue Jays, who announced his retirement officially. Known for his dazzling defensive ability, McDonald spent most of his career at shortstop while also appearing at second base and third.
McDonald impressed with his glove and some dubbed him the ‘Prime Minister of Defence,’ but he was a below-average hitter with a .233/.273/.323 career batting line. However, one of his 28 career home runs was particularly memorable. He homered on Father’s Day 2010 just days after his father passed away.

Class act all around, I hope he lands a job as an infield coach or bench boss somewhere in the majors.

Re: John McDonald officially retires
John McDonald retires and then becomes confused and humbled as all of Canada seemingly pays tribute to him by celebrating John MacDonald day on January 11th. (he figures the added "a" is a misprint)
