Why is it that Derek Fisher goes unnoticed in terms of what he brought to us that year? I always here people talk 15-1 and rightfully say Kobe was the best in the world and Shaq the most dominant ever but why do we ignore Fisher?

These are his basic Western Conference Playoff numbers:
MIN FG% 3P% FTM-FTA FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS

Fisher
-------
38.7 .516 .692 0.3-0.7 .500 5.0 2.7 0.0 1.3 3.0 0.7 14.0
36.8 .415 .357 2.5-3.5 .714 4.5 2.8 0.0 1.3 2.5 1.0 12.3
38.0 .457 .333 3.3-3.7 .909 5.3 4.7 0.0 1.0 1.7 0.0 15.7

I don't know what these numbers are, you inflate them with the minutes or something? That's still nothing compared to Linsanity numbers.
Did you now the Lakers lost only a mere 6 games out 36 to close that year? And that all happened when Fisher returned! We won with the playoffs included 30/36 with Fisher in the lineup which is 83% of our games with him in the lineup.

Whatever, there's no reason to believe that that team wouldn't do so well in the playoffs if it's another good shooting PG there.
Derek Fisher in closeout games in the playoffs:
21 ppg, 4 apg, 5 rpg, 58.3 fg% and shot 78% from three

Impressive, no question, the guy is clutch.
That man was the best triangle point guard to ever play for Phil in that stretch. The guy had a 61.8 ts% in that playoff run and he shot 75% vs the Spurs from three. Fishers playoff numbers came with a fractured foor he continued to play on in the playoffs. He was told to sit out and get it fixed but stayed playign, which is why he later became slower

That's cool.
Lin had a hot 3 weeks with nothing to lose and he never recreated it. He never played solid playoff basketball, he never showed enough to remain a starter, and he was literally given away with picks as opposed to Asik who they got an asset for despite him being bitchy and sitting out some.

The hot streak was historical and winning. He averaged 17/7 for a stretch the next year and 22/8 the next when Harden was out. It's true he never played solid playoffs basketball but it's still a small sample, he still has a chance to redeem himself, he was injured in the first year and played OK the second as a reserve. Asik is a center, not many good ones in the league and he's solid. Lin is inconsistent and there are a lot of good PGs now but ceiling is high.
I wouldn't mind Lin back, at the right price I'd welcome it as the backup. That said he hadn't shown enough to start anywhere but maybe Phili in this league

Well, he keeps improving he has a chance. He's got to iron out his deficiencies. OTOH, it's unfortunate that he has a tendency to play either too fast or too slow, he is not perfect and needs a certain environment to flourish. It's unfortunate that it hasn't been good so far. He signed with Houston, it was supposed to be a good environment, then all of a sudden the Harden trade happened. Otherwise it would have been completely different. He's apparently not particularly suitable for Scott's offense, would have been completely different if MDA didn't resign. Well, next season, I hope he is lucky to find a team that have the personnel that fits him and believe in him; he can show the world what he can do. If he signs back for backup, I hope it's for very short term. OTOH, it all depends on his upcoming performance. He's obviously working hard to get better. If he plays real well and consistent, it'd all change.
I'm going to leave it at this, fisher had to compete with Van Exel and Ron Harper ... Lin was given the reigns in his last two stops and got benched for Beverly and Price ... That's a world of difference between them when it came to expectations, reliability, and overall competing for their spots. Hell Fish found his way to start next to both Baron Davis and Deron Williams for what its worth

Well, it's just a different situation. These two players are so different. Fisher compliments a ball dominant wing scorer well while Lin is the polar opposite, he needs everyone to play a team offense. We look back at Fisher's career and appreciate what he's done, Lin OTOH, most of his career is still ahead of him. We can only sit back and hope for the best! Who knows what's gonna happen?!

Thanks for the honesty.
