And even when we connect the 1 time out of 5 that Ainge bats down that low(ie James Young) I'm sure we'll have hime playing in the d league instead of giving the guy minutes his rookie year. This is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). How about tanking and getting a Top 5 pick so we can land an effin STUD? I'd rather have TWO Top 5 picks and tons of cap space the next 2 years instead of countless 1st rd picks that are more likely to bring back JR Giddens and Fab Melo types then Rondo and Youngs. Starting to think Ainge just likes to pump his ego by always being in the trade rumors and acquiring picks.

If you read the game thread you'll see a ton of "fans" cheering against the Celtics. People wanted a complete blow up. Well...the ones who wanted it has it. Now we need Smart and Young to pan out because KO and Sully haven't been all that great and look like role players, ditto with Zeller.

I'm happy for Green, should the deal end up going down for sure. He should be as a 3rd or 4th guy on a contender. Perfect role for him. He'll be really good for Memphis as a SF and small ball PF.

If two 1sts were moved for Mozgov what value do first round picks have in the NBA currently? If the Celtics trade for a star two things will occur. One, the Celtics picks will decrease in value. Two, why would you go to a bad situation if you're already disgruntled?

Andy this is good thinking, but there's SO MUCH to move that I can't fault him for starting early. Might get more later, but situations might change so you don't know. And we've got games to lose and youngsters to evaluate - while still showcasing e.g. Bass and Thornton - in the meantime.

I don't want to keep on this since there's a Wright thread now. But if you talk about letting guys walk, I'd rather wait for a better pick for Wright or waive him after the deadline. Second rounders are almost worthless.. And he's not exactly a trouble-maker.. Like I said, I think Ainge sees potential value in the TPEs to facilitate trades, and depending on what happens with Memphis, this may be a roster crunch issue. They may have tried to buy out Nelson and failed, that little dude is stubborn.

Second-rounders are far from "worthless," particularly early ones like these picks will likely be.

I'm sure someone has crunched the numbers.. The likelihood of getting a rotation player in the second round who stays in the league more than 2-3 years is very low.. Second-rounders almost literally NEVER get traded for firsts, even when you have half a dozen to bundle. And Ainge never gambles on Euros in the second round.

Anyway, it's reasonable to wager that Minnesota is in the late lottery next year.. Wiggins is looking more and more like a superstar in waiting. It's not a great bet, but it could happen.

Yes, that was you complaining about Smart not so indirectly. As in, "the guy that we drafted later in the draft has more potential than our lotto pick. Stupid, sexy Ainge."

The C's are not going to make that move anytime soon, dont think about this offseason.

The C's will try to get one-two stars out of the Draft, hopefully Smart and your 1st in 2015, and then, if those guys work, they will make that move down the road in a couple of years.

Ange was able to draft a guy 15th, develop him and then use him as the centerpiece in the KG deal.

He also traded Jiri Welsch at the 2005 deadline for a 2007 Cavs pick that was due to be a late 1st rounder, then flipped that pick at the 2006 draft for Rondo.

Just saying. Plenty of examples of him working around the margins for major gain.

Oh... and we are in fact tanking too. Can do both of these things at the same time, you know.
