Could Memphis agree to alter the protection on the Denver pick? For example change it to only top 5 protection resulting in them essentially giving Denver the pick this year? This would mean Boston could have access to a potential pick in 2017.

That would be impossible. They have one pick with protections until 2019. This would have to be structured as conveyed two years after their initial obligations are met. 2021 is 7 years from now, so it's either unprotected or low protections that if met convey to a pair of second round picks. Given the long time frame, I'd wager it's unprotected.

Right, except this draft year is 2015 so 2022 is seven years. So a pick two years after their first is conveyed with the protections I mentioned. That's my best guess. Would be a huge win if it becomes unprotected.

Could be something like top-10, then 7, 5, finally unprotected as well. Seconds at the end just as likely IMO.

I think your math is off. There are 7 drafts between now and 2021. 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Since the first pick is protected until 2019, this theoretically would be a 2021 pick. It has the chance to be sooner, but I believe in the eyes of the CBA it's a 2021 pick. Any protection pushes it beyond 7 year window so it must be as is or second rounders. I'm acknowledging that their could be clauses for 2019/20, but I'm unaware of that's possible under the CBA as this is theoretically a 2021 pick.

I think Smartwentcrazy has nailed this.

It's either an unprotected pick (probably 2019) or a pick that, if protection kicks in, turns immediately into a second rounder (I don't think it can be more than 1 second rounder or else it would go beyond 7 years). Therefore, if there is protection, it would have to be very light. Now that I understand, it's probably either unprotected (likely) or something like top 3 protected or a second rounder in that same year.

I don't think it has to be a 2019 pick. If the other pick from the Leuer deal is sent out sooner. If they send their first pick out next year, then we could be getting a pick in 2018, which could have a year of protection.

This is funny because it just didn't matter what happened to Prince. Most of the time guys sit to stay healthy.

His head could have fallen off like a Lego character and they'd still be inking the deal.

From all the media reports the final deal will look something like:

Memphis gets Jeff Green, Russ Smith
New Orleans gets Quincy Pondexter
Boston gets Tayshaun Prince, John Salmons and a protected future 1st round pick.

Trade can't be completed until Monday when the league's offices open. The Celtics will have five SF on their roster (Wallace, Crowder, Salmons, Prince, Turner). I wouldn't be surprised if Ainge turns this into a four team deal by Monday by moving Prince or Salmons to another team.

I would imagine both Prince and Salmons are candidates to be cut pretty quickly if Danny can't find a taker for one/both.

Even though the deal cannot be official until Monday, there can be a handshake deal and an agreement before, right? So far, Wojnarowski hasn't confirmed the deal. I can't wait for it to happen :)

Am I supposed to already remove Green from my Celtics 2k roster?? :P

Both the PHX and the MEM deals took place concurrently so why did only the PHX deal become official ?

yeah, not sure why...but another possibility is Ainge looking for a destination for Prince and Salmons?... also it seems like The pelicans are getting nothing for helping facilitate...so I wonder if they need at least a second rounder somehow?

Rivers is a big time scrub that play heroball and cant shoot, he is not even going to get minutes with the current roster.
His future is in China.

Rivers had his 15/16 team option declined so he is an expiring. Better than Salmons at least.

Meh, I suppose Rivers is an upgrade to Salmons because he's young and also an expiring, but realistically Rivers has continually shown that he simply isn't a good NBA player.
