That's a lot more palatable. I don't mind taking a flyer on Rivers. He might be the most naturally talented guy we have here besides Young. No more Pressey and less Turner after this move please.

Sten reports 1st IS included.

Why are Pelicans exchanging Rivers for Pondexter?

I'm still wary about taking rivers. My nightmare is that he ends the season with two months of good play an we overpay by a lot. I guess if there is a plus it's that he gives us a little more handling which we kind of need.

I have always liked Pondexter...just hasn't materialized...maybe the pels see something? but yes it seems strange unless they get a 2nd rounder or something for their help with facilitation.

Even if he does well here, I don't think DA would overpay considering what his professional career has been thus far. And we need more scorers/ballhandlers on this team anyways, so why not?

Rivers has been so bad that despite being a lotto pick they didn't pick up the team option which is pretty unusual. He suffers from the same disease as Avery, he doesn't do anything besides shoot.

Austin has developed into a very good defender and has matured as a player (he's realized that his offense isn't very good), plays within the system. Good fit alongside Smart/Bradley/Crowder.

Curious about Rivers bird rights? his 4th year option was declined so he has limited rights correct? I don't think we could overpay to much even if we wanted. Any cap experts wan't to clarify?

True, but he's 2" taller and has much better handles than Bradley. If we can groom him into a Jamal Crawford type 6th man, then shooting/scoring might be all we need from him. He still has that explosive first dribble.

Rivers hasn't been good in the league. Hopefully we don't steal minutes from the proper players, but infinitely more fun than Salmons.

I don't disagree, I'm just having flashbacks to the last time we took a player whose college hype way exceeded his years of mediocre to poor nba play-Jeff's green, a better player. I just rather US find demarre Carole/jae Crowder types. Obviously that doesn't really apply to this specific situation as is, but would if Danny made a more lasting commitment to Austin.

Rivers keeps things interesting. Not a huge get or anything, but it's something.

Let's re-sign him on the cheap and then hold his playing time hostage until Doc complies to our demands.

Oh, we have to take on Pondexter to net Rivers? Nevermind, I now hate this.
