I'm a fan of Rivers and hope he can resurrect some of his potential here in Boston. Ainge is just a straight up baller as a GM. Whether you like him or not, there just aren't many GM's with his kind of moxie. If the Celtics can try to salvage Jordan Crawford and Evan Turner, I see nothing wrong with trying to turn Rivers around.

Looks like Fred( Danny) and Lamont (Brad) found some more junk ( Rivers) to bring home.

Danny Ainge has given this board a lot to talk about this season. It's a nice distraction to a bad season. The guy is a magician/politician.

Celtics got a 22 year old young player and a 1st round pick and people are bitching?
Seriously?
Great move by Ainge getting Rivers to go along with the rest of the young players on this team. Awesome job!

I love the usually references to Austin Rivers. Take a flier, low risk/high reward.
He may be a low risk, but high reward? Really? Where are the minutes going to come from.
Ainge continues to add average to below average players. This roster now has 16 average to below average players on it. They are going to battle for minutes to become more average.
This doesn't help Stevens at all for the moment. Who does he play? How many minutes does he play his guys? I think it doesn't help in developing the players because they don't know which ayers to develope.

I disagree. Nelson will soon go. Thornton will probably be a buy-out after the trade deadline. Bass is not taking crucial minutes from Zeller, KO and Sully now that Wright and Green are gone. Prince will not be a factor, if he remains. There will be time for all the prospects.

Yep, my thoughts. Apparently Green was already creating problems in the locker room according to some reports from a reporter of the Pacers.
I am relieved to not have to deal with Green´s frustrating ¨walking dead¨ attitude...it seemed everything sucked, everything was tiring.
Bye Jeff, no other player has frustrated me so much in a long, long time. You have all the tools to be an All Star and yet you don´t give a damn and fail to do so.

Have some patience. Ainge is continuously dealing and shrinking our roster as we wanted. And how is Rivers not potentially high reward? He was the #10 pick for a reason.

There are already a number of guards -- Smart, Bradley, Nelson, Pressey, Turner -- who he will be competing for minutes with. Maybe he gets flipped somewhere else, or we buy out Nelson. The first round pick is nice, but I'd like to see the protections. It could turn into multiple second rounders sometime mid-century like the protected Minny pick we got from Phoenix.
Turner/Smart/Rivers
Bradley/Thornton/Rivers
Nelson is gone. Pressey can wait his turn. Turner can play a little small forward, Thornton is a question mark. Austin has plenty of minutes if Thornton is waived or traded.. And Rivers is an audition anyway- they want to get a look at him up close in practice and see how he responds in a different environment.. The guy was horribly developed in NOP, FWIW..
Tayshaun is the real story for me- do we keep him on as a vet presence, waive him, or try to flip him for an asset?
Tayshaun almost certainly gets waived. We don't need another veteran presence at SF who stinks up the joint when he actually has to step onto the floor -- we have Gerald Wallace for that role.
Also, this Evan Turner experiment at PG needs to come to a merciful end. If we're going to lose, I'd rather lose with Smart getting his sea legs at PG than Turner -- at the very least, we will get a clearer look at what we actually have in him as a player.
Tayshaun probably gets waived- but does it happen immediately, or do they take a month and try to find a trade for him? I'd bet the latter.
Thornton is tricky, too- he's another expiring who can be waived, but he's a nice role player and they might want him in the fold in case Rivers disappoints, or walks in the summer.
It's also not outside the realm of possibility Bradley gets traded, although it looked like he'd hit his ceiling a month ago and now he shows signs of breaking through it.

Austin ' I am in the NBA cause my dad is Doc ' Rivers. Nice, we got ourselves a tank commander. Guy is so bad it's not even funny. Career TS% of 46%. His rookie season is an all time bad - PER 5.9, TS% 43%. I mean, how often do you have a 10th pick in his 3rd season being a salary filler in a Quincy Pondexter trade.
I don't mind the addition though, he's an expiring and it's a good story, people will have something to talk about.

I'm pretty sure (nay, completely sure) the roster limit is 15, so this statement is literally impossible.

Because he's not Chris Paul.

He played 26 minutes a game on a lottery team as the youngest rookie in the league. Too much, too soon.. Kobe Bryant's rookie season was almost as bad. Not comparing the two, just pointing out that a rough start at a young age isn't fatal. Don't think he's had much guidance from New Orleans.. Impatience with young players can kill their careers.. "Produce now or we'll get frustrated and write you off completely" is a horrible development strategy, but it's pretty common around the league.

Remember guys, with Austin Rivers comes Jeremiah! Just wait a few games until he tweets that his brother is a superior player to Young and should be getting more playing time.
