Two players that have been on the Heat radar. Its not a question that the Heat needs either talent. Both are big men with questions about their focus on the game, but each brings something different to the on the court that the Heat need. Sanders is an elite defensive player, will have nights that he puts up triple doubles in pts, rebounds and blocks. Lopez has the talent to put points on the board, get to the foul line and cause major mismatches with his size. This should be a major opportunity for the Heat to grab a talent when their stock are at their lowest. Neither are number one guys but they can be a major impact as a third piece that could immediately have an impact. But who would you take that chance on? Both will make a major hit on the salary cap room for 2016. Sanders would make the Heat a better defensive team, currently ranked 27th in defensive efficiency. Lopez would make the Heat a better offensive team especially in the halfcourt, which currently ranked 19 in offensive efficiency. Lopez height alone will also improve Miami defense.
What may it take to obtain these bigs. Bigs usually never come cheap but Larry Sanders might be had for very little, it may not even require a player like Deng to obtain him. Larry Sanders off the court issues have deteriorated his trade value. Its one thing to miss game because injuries but Sanders has miss games because of his behavior (flagrant fouls, bar fights, and drugs). His latest behavioral mishap has remained a mystery. The positive is you know he can play, and he is in NBA shape. You know what your going to get on the court with Sanders. A shot blocker, a rebounder, length and quickness. He can defend any big, PF or C, in the NBA. He can be that lock down cornerback in the NFL, that you can leave on an island.
Brook Lopez will not come cheap as Sanders, and may take Deng and more to obtain him. Offensive Bigs with size never are cheap. But is he worth it? We all know he has talent, but we all say he should be better. He will have those games every once and while that says he is a dominate big. Then he will disappear in a Roy Hibbert fashion. His contract is coming to an end but that potential is still looming and will demand a big pay day. The rarity makes his market high, but his games makes you wonder is he worth it. He also has a history of being injured. Its always something, a ankle, foot, should etc. You can at least say its not a chronic injury that you can pretty assume he going to miss games for. But his injuries are unpredictably predictable lol. He reminds me of Mike Miller, you know there is a chance he going to be injured but not you dont know what, you can even place a bet in las vegas what body part is going to break.
So Heat fans who would you rather take a chance on? Would you take Brook Lopez who may take half the team even our youth to trade for or Larry Sanders on South Beach.
